Compression OR Tension Anti-Vibration Damping System.....?

Yep - that makes sense - he says they are "very very hard" and they are being used in tension (hanging) therefore they are underperforming relative to their intended usage (in compression, 2-4lbs per unit), hence "they only serve as electronic vibration damper for the gimbal IMU" i.e. they are...

Compression OR Tension Anti-Vibration Damping System.....?

No they're not - those are regular compression-mode dampers - they may "kinda" work in tension but I doubt they'll work well. The pricey ones from KamKop look like they are actually working in compression - clever little design and I'm not surprised they are pricey, but that's no guarantee...

Motor angle dihedral What’s the deal with this?

Why is it that so many people in this hobby believe the technology is so mystical that the only way to advance our understanding is repeated trial and error? I don't doubt that your quad seemed to fly the same with and without the dihedral and that your battery consumption seemed to be about the...

    European Laws

UK you need a licence (with exams) to operate commercially, i.e. for reward. See http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=1995&pagetype=90

Exporting Multirotors - export licence - ECCN

A quick look at this document suggests that a UAV only becomes "controlled" (in respect of exporting from UK) if it has an autonomous range of more than 300km or has been designed or modified specifically for military use. Somebody in Fedex is being a d**khead - it's a toy, specifically a "scale...

Motor angle dihedral What’s the deal with this?

It's not "theory", it's already proven! That's the beauty of science ;)

AirStock - making money from Drone images/video

A very serious request - please don't use the word "drone": it carries all the negative media hype that we're trying to dispel! Drones are things that drop bombs on people, what we use for aerial photography are multirotors, RC toy aircraft, RPA, UAV, UAS, etc.... call them anything you like...

Motor angle dihedral What’s the deal with this?

It's straightforward mathematics/physics - if you tilt the motor from vertical the total thrust from the motor/prop doesn't change but there is now a "sideways" thrust vector (the effect you wanted - it's why you tilted the motor) - so there must be correspondingly less vertical lift. If you...

Motor angle dihedral What’s the deal with this?

One inevitable effect of tilting the motors is to reduce the vertical thrust (in direct proportion to the angle from vertical) - this would translate into less "efficiency", i.e. shorter flight times. You'd certainly need to be definite about the benefits!

Adobe has released a beta lens profile for the DJI Phantom 2 Vision camera!

140 degree FoV, that's why! It's a fisheye lens. I know you know that, Denny - just pointing it out 'cos I get bugged by the general misunderstanding of wide angle photography, rectilinear projection, etc.

Two Ecs wired in parallel for X8 configuration

There would be a difference if you wired them as described - the capacitor(s) on the "inboard" ESC would experience the spikes created by the "outboard" ESC as well as its own. Can't say what the consequences might be, but it's not something I'd try.

DJI released the Zenmuse Z15-5D 3-axis gimbal!

IMO this new release is invalid because of DJI's insistence on a single, fixed focal-length lens. Frankly, I find statements to the effect of "a 5D is a waste of time", "male jewellery", etc. absurd. Groan! Yet another "will obsolete everything" prediction from Denny.

    Besteady One Combo just purchased

Wow! This doesn't sound like a regular AlexMos problem - least ways I've not heard of it. BeSteady are describing their version of the BGC as "custom" - what features have they "customised" over the regular AlexMos? The mechanical arrangement looks pretty standard to me.

Am I dumb for wanting a Cinestar 6?

Denny - I gotta say, that's "not the best" vid I've seen from you. Lacklustre colour, chronically unsharp, awful corner smearing, nasty moustache distortion, dodgy exposure, wayward horizons, etc. Also the camera movements are not smooth from that Phantom - several noticeable tail-wags and...

    JARUS rules

The JARUS stuff is for large single rotor craft - over 150kg! Nothing relevant to us at all. The FAA roadmap linked above IS relevant - see page 58

    Besteady One Combo just purchased

It stands to reason that Paypal would not allow pre-orders - to cover themselves they would have to impose 100% retention of the monies received until goods are shipped - an impracticality on both sides. On my webstore they retain 10% of the transaction value for a rolling 30 days to cover...

The Great Drone Survey of 2013

Great idea - but, p-l-e-a-s-e don't call them "drones"... UAV, UAS, RPA, toy aircraft, etc..... anything but the media-hyped word "drone" :)

    Besteady One Combo just purchased

Remember that these guys only recently had a massively successful KickStarter - they got about 10 times more than they were asking for! So my guess is that right now they've suddenly found themselves holding a tiger by the tail! I think the product is probably very good (some excellent product...

    Multirotot Aerial Photography

My humble opinions: Draganfly has very low payload capacity and very high price tag - DIY or RTF from a builder is much more cost effective and you'll get a better machine that can lift more. More rotors doesn't necessarily mean more stable or even more power - lots of other variables...
