    Aeronavics / Droidworx Droidworx Booms

Okay - so I was trying to avoid criticizing Droidworx (sorry - Aeronavics!) directly - but I agree: sounds like they've "lost touch with their customer base". The $25 handling fee does seem particularly strange since by selling to you directly they are making their normal margin plus the margin...

    Aeronavics / Droidworx Droidworx Booms

They are adding a NZ$25 surcharge for "buyer collection"? That does seem harsh. Something else I really don't get - why build one of the few recognisable brand names in the industry and then drop it? It seems obvious to me that the "transition" to the new name is not catching on in the marketplace.

    Aeronavics / Droidworx Droidworx Booms

I'm neither knocking nor supporting Droidworx in particular, but I despair whenever I see this kind of price comparison. Just because you can buy a tube direct from a kitchen-table trader in China for a certain price does not mean that another supplier (in this case Droidworx) is "over-charging"...

SAR or Protecting public privacy..... which is higher priority?

Why does it have to be either/or? Diverting the UAS debate down this kind of narrow side-road is not productive. By establishing a clear "A versus B" question you validate both A and B as tenable positions: A - Unmanned aerial systems are useful for SAR operations B - Unmanned aerial systems...

FYI: Carbon Fiber tubes - how they are constructed - Enjoy ;)

Don't know if you're gong to find any meaningful comparisons/tests. In general, a round tube will have greater torsional stiffness than a square/rectangular - the square/rectangular will have greater rigidity (irrespective of material). But there are so many variables, you can't characterise...

FYI: Carbon Fiber tubes - how they are constructed - Enjoy ;)

One thing I've discovered about CF - if you want to see just how amazing this material can be then do one simple thing: pay more for it! The cheap, nasty crap that's sold through so many online hobby stores, particularly tubing, is just a waste of time. Unscrupulous vendors will sell you GF...

FYI: Carbon Fiber tubes - how they are constructed - Enjoy ;)

fwiw - the Health & Safety Police in UK list MDF dust as hazardous, but not CFRP dust or debris. On the other hand - aluminium dust is highly toxic and highly explosive! :)

Anyone using Camremote? (have a problem)

Ah - focus ;) Probably needs the lens switched to Manual focus - possibly before the remote is attached. I've tried many of the available tethering systems and the generic ones can be a bit temperamental. Likely the issue is with a camera setting that's "blocking" manual focus rather than a...

Anyone using Camremote? (have a problem)

Assuming camremote is a LANC-type system, it's probably because your camera doesn't respond to the LANC-standard signals for zoom/in/out. What model is it?

    G-Lock First flight test

Makes sense - and points up the need for proper engineering. Servo shafts need to be supported by an external bearing, belt pulleys need very precise centre-to-centre spacing (and a tensioner, ideally), etc. Close-meshing gears can work in low-torque scenarios like this one but it's bound to be...

AlexMos and other brushless gimbal controllers....what is the truth?

By my reckoning, the huge majority of decent FaceTube videos are from a GoPro, which is relatively easily to do with Alexmos (hyper-wide lens, lightness and built-in balance). It gets more difficult with Sony/Lumix cameras and damn tricky with DSLRs. IMHO we've already come to the point where...

AlexMos and other brushless gimbal controllers....what is the truth?

I hear you. In your case, torque is more than sufficient - but backlash is your enemy. Obviously belt drive masks the backlash somewhat so you may get little apparent free movement of the camera (which means its going to be fine for stills), but nothing can make up for the delay (and the jolt)...

AlexMos and other brushless gimbal controllers....what is the truth?

You're certainly not wrong about being "behind the game", bart - but the main problem with these brushless gimbals is lack of torque. The measured torque of these motors is piddly compared to even the tiniest RC servo - something less than 0.25 kg.cm. (less than 3.5 oz.in.) for a "Nex5" size of...

Heavy Load X8 Fall from the Sky-Crash, Need answears, clues,...

I remember reading several disaster stories on RCG about these towers. The tall, thin antennae are for cell phones. The round ones with covers are point-to-point microwave - apparently they kill anything (including birds!) - Best avoided!

Heavy Load X8 Fall from the Sky-Crash, Need answears, clues,...

That sounds like microwave point-to-point - a very tightly focussed beam - I've heard that those cause problems.

Heavy Load X8 Fall from the Sky-Crash, Need answears, clues,...

So a power loss sounds less than likely ;) My only other guess is that aliens were using the aerials on the hill to relay a message home and swamped all the frequencies you were using :):upset:

Heavy Load X8 Fall from the Sky-Crash, Need answears, clues,...

The fact that you lost/regained everything simultaneously suggests to me a possible power problem. How are your batteries wired? Do they converge to a single attachment point on a PCB or do they go to three attachment points on a PCB? i.e. is there any part of the power wiring that is carrying...

    12s compatible flight controllers

eh? what? 12S flight controller? no...!!!! The circuitry will operate on 3.3 or 5V, whatever voltage input level is allowed - there will be onboard regulators to chop it to 3.3 or 5V. So why not just use an external switching power supply fed from your 12S? btw - heat is not generated by the...

Need a small high quality point and shoot with GPS tagging

I'd run with your size argument, Denny, if it was remotely logical that a DJI Phantom is less dangerous when falling into a crowd than any other size of craft. It simply isn't! The GoPro is a very useful piece of kit in the right applications - I just don't believe that aerial photography is one...
