Need a small high quality point and shoot with GPS tagging

This is what I can't understand - why is everyone still so gung-ho enthusiastic about the GoPro while at the same conceding the long list if problems? Poor focus, dodgy metering, no manual control, complex distortion, awkward mounting, no lens shading, poor battery life, and so on, ad infinitum! ;)

    Motor lube check...

In a word - no :) Your bearings are factory-fitted with grease. So no to Dri-Slide, no to dripping oil (of any kind) on the outside of the shield. Period. I agree with tstrike - if there's a problem, swap them out.

Motor stops twice in mid air on hexa

Big selection here: http://uk.mouser.com/Wire-Cable/Wire-Protection-Management/_/N-5ggy?Keyword=grommet&FS=True I've used a lot of this one: http://www.panduit.com/heiler/CatalogCutSheets/GEE36F-C%20Product%20Page.pdf

Motor stops twice in mid air on hexa

Liquid tape would be a temporary band-aid, but the problem with the wire is that you don't really know if there's any broken conductors inside. I understand what you mean on the soldering thing - maybe a quick trip to your dealer? - would only take him minutes. Ah, yes - lead-free solder - PITA...

Motor stops twice in mid air on hexa

I use ZTW 40A ESCs - got some a long time ago on a recommendation and I've stuck with them since - "better the devil you know" etc. ;) Re: soldering - it's really, really worth getting into it. Not unsurprisingly, the more money you spend on the soldering gear, the easier it is. Many people...

Motor stops twice in mid air on hexa

:) I recall a recent conversation in which I mentioned the need for sleeving to protect wires where they pass near to edges or through holes in the carbon fibre. And you're suggesting it's "a bit overboard" when you have in front of you a rubbed-through wire that has (probably) caused an...

Motor stops twice in mid air on hexa

Is that a tear or a melt? Either way (and assuming that's the suspect ESC), I'd extract that ESC and strip the heat-shrink off to give it a thorough inspection before replacing the wire. What about the capacitors? - any sign of bulging or weeping on the exposed ends? If there is (even the...

Motor stops twice in mid air on hexa

Mmmm... could be a timing problem or a PWM range problem if it only happens on full yaw - check that the timing setting is the same in all ESCs and your throttle range calibration is good for all ESCs.

Motor stops twice in mid air on hexa

Sounds like a power problem more than a control glitch. When you landed it that second time, was anything hot? The motor, the ESC, the wires, the connectors? Your next step should be to swap the affected ESC with another arm and see if it happens again (and on which arm), etc. - standard...

    World's Most Overpriced Multi

Who says that something sold for $50K has to have $50K-worth of components in it? What about pre- and post-sales support? R&D costs? tooling costs? salaries? rent? etc...etc...etc...

TBS New York City Round 2!!!

I agree that this video is "restrained" - and largely pointless, too. It isn't high-adrenaline action and it isn't good videography, so what is its purpose? Seems you don't need to do much these days to attract the label "awesome" ;)

MR Arms. Rectangle CF, Aluminum, or 25mm CF Round Tubes for AUW 18-20lbs

In terms of aerodynamics a square tube is the worst followed by a round tube. The best would be a tear-drop shape. The arm not only disturbs the airflow but also is a source of vibration - as the blade passes over it there is a "beat" effect (which is why vibration frequency is higher when using...

I got a chuckle out of your response to SMP's chuckle :)

Has anyone used or own a HPQ1C copter??? Need ANY feedback, PLEASE!

Looks like it's one of the ex-China no-brand efforts - might be useful as a learner machine but probably not a long-term "investment". EDIT: bart beat me to it

Good luck and have fun, akhero - most people here are much nicer and more diplomatic than me ;)

    Power distribution board wire size?

You should stick with 10AWG from battery to PDB - maximum load will be approaching 100Amps, way too much for 16AWG. It's always better to play safe with wire sizes - getting it wrong could, at best, shorten your flight time or, at worst, turn your quad into a flaming 4kg projectile that can...

    Power distribution board wire size?

Woah there! akhero - you need to supply more information: full specs on battery, ESCs and motors. Granted this is the beginner's forum, but you really should know the answer to your own question - from the mathematics, not from one vague question on a forum.

Compression OR Tension Anti-Vibration Damping System.....?

I don't have anything specific for you but, in general, study the successful examples and notice the common features. Most important is that the isolators work in compression, their number and their softness are in a calculated proportion to the weight of the gimbal+camera, and (very important)...
