XAircraft Super X GPS quit working.

I had a crash with my SuperX once and after I repaired the copter the GPS wouldn't work no matter what I tried. I was totally convinced it was the GPS but Anthony thought it was unlikely and asked me to keep troubleshooting. Fortunately I had a second copter with a SuperX on it so I could swap...

Very Interesting! Linux/APM flight control system!

Did you guys see the video I posted in the 3DR section showing lead Ardupilot developer Andrew Tridgell doing a demo of 'Flying with Linux' at LCA2015 in Auckland, NZ? If you are interested in autopilots running on Linux it's a must watch. Not long ago I actually had the honour to photograph the...

    Aerial Mapping, New Forum Area!

Perfect timing. I'm going to do my first tests of mapping next week in preparation for mapping a small research section of forest for a University. I'm swapping out the SuperX in my hex for a Pixhawk for the project and will be flying a Sony NEX 6.

    Flight Demo at LinuxConf 2015

Andrew Tridgell, who is the lead developer for the open source Arudpilot code used in 3DR flight controllers, did a flight demo at LinuxConf 2015 in Auckland, New Zealand last week. Not only did he demonstrate that the flight controller code could run on Linux but it could do so while the Linux...

Aeronavics / Droidworx A visit to the mother ship

I took lots of pictures at the conference and of Auckland https://www.flickr.com/photos/dburkey/sets/72157650222375931/ I didn't take any photos at Aeronavics as it just didn't feel right. I'm sure they would not have objected, although Simon did say he would have to check if I could photograph...

Aeronavics / Droidworx A visit to the mother ship

I had the wonderful opportunity to fly over to New Zealand for a conference last week in Auckand. I ducked out one afternoon, hired a car and drove a couple hours South for a visit with the Aeronavics team in Raglan. They operate from a lovely property just out of town and I had the chance to...

    Hi Folks

'Auto focus', that will never catch on. :-) Wait a minute, I have to go yell at some kids to get off my lawn!

    Hi Folks

I've never understood the desire to use multi rotors in wedding photography other than as a marketing gimmick or fad. While shooting from multi rotors is becoming easier by the day and wedding photography aerial shots don't need to be the highest of quality, it's still a discrete set of skills...

obstacle avoidance sensors for autonomous quadcopter

I'm not sure about the APM2.5 but Pixhawk has both serial and I2C bus. I'm pretty sure you can put any sensor on those that you want to if you add the driver software to the code. I think it supports canbus as well, or will in the very near future. It's designed to be fairly open.

    Personal Information

I only have basic contact info on mine. Name, email and phone number. But I like your idea about the extra information regarding batteries and why it's lost. That sounds sensible to me. I'm really surprised that the consumer market drones don't have serial numbers so they can be tracked back to...

    Choosing a Flight Controller

If your requirements are programability and a like supportive community then in my experience your only choice would the Pixhawk. The PX4 is great for researchers as well but the Pixhawk is so close to it that I don't see any advantage to using it. I wouldn't consider the APM2.6 as it's 8 bit...

CASA (Australian) UAV controller / operator certificate

I'm in the process of doing my OC now. I'm using a combination of creating my own content and getting advice from a consultant. I've heard some people have been knocked back by just submitting an obvious templated document and others have been knocked back for not having the correct contact. I...

CASA (Australian) UAV controller / operator certificate

I think mine took about 5 weeks. I've heard that CASA hired more staff so maybe yours will go quicker. Seems odd to me that your trainer didn't submit it for you. As for the OC processing, see my post above. CASA have a huge backlog of applications and is quoting around 4 months to process them.

Possible Multirotor Application in Underground Mines?

I don't remember the details but I'll try and get more info later. I have been told that this is being researched and tested somewhere in Australia. I think it was being done at a University.

I NEEDED MY INSPIRE 1 for this!!!

@pgaucher - Thanks for the info. The specs are indeed very impressive. But I just can't bring myself to spend money with DJI. I use the Wookong on an Octo which works great and I love their gimbals. They do appear to be moving ahead of others so I may have to eat my words and give them my money...

I NEEDED MY INSPIRE 1 for this!!!

Wow, that is fantastic. Really lovely. What makes you think an Inspire would have made it better? Doesn't it have essentially the same spec camera? Anyway, really enjoyed the video. Thanks.

Give some advice to a newcomer?

It was just a joke. This is a very addictive hobby. One copter is never enough and there's always parts to buy. From my point of view it's all great fun and extremely interesting. Enjoy the adventure.
