Any idea if an RSGS could be made to work on a Cinestar gimbal? I'm thinking of selling my current setup and upgrading as well. I've been having pretty good luck out of the RSGS on my PS1 gimbal. I know I would have to figure out some way to attach it to the Cinestar since the tilt axle isn't threaded. I noticed that there appears to be a couple of holes near the middle of the tilt pulley. Would it work if it was offset just a little but all the axis were still lined up? I'm just brainstorming right now, not sure which way I want to go yet.

Fitted a Red Scarlet film camera today to the Av 200. Even at nearly 4.00 kgs and heavy battery leads and video bnc connected it kept it very stable up to 130mm of lens. Had to wind gains up to over 300 to get the response in pan and tilt which was surprising. It has a Canon 24-135 L lens and we will fly it in the next few days for a trial. i expect it will be brilliant.

How did you manage that? I flew with a scarlet and apical on av200, but had to lower gains around 170 on tilt and roll, and even 35 on pan, and it was still a bit bouncing...

My mount has a weighty frame of arount 20kgs which the Av200 360 is attached through sorbathane isolators so might be the reason. Photo higher are sending me a modified camera tray to suit the red cameras which allows a better balance through top mounting of the camera with its high Cof G.

I have all that. Vibration damping between mount and frame, and the special red tray. It is on a skyjib 8. What servo's do you use?

Well, I just drilled and threaded the end of the tilt axle on my Cinestar. That must be the simplest way to go...?

Have a look there, I used this adaptor and it worked perfectly:

The new manual is nearly ready and includes some awesome tuning guidelines - just like I would have expected from PH in the first place.
MikeH is writing it and I have had a chance to proof-read the first draft (I am a technical specialist and trainer at my full-time job). It is such a step up on the original - he has done well :D

The real question is Pete, do you think the manual will make ANY difference to the RSGS operation or lack of should I say?

While waiting for Photohigher release a better firmware than 1.2 and better manual, I would show my last work with 1.7b and av130.
Hope you enjoy it.

....with 1.7b I noticed a huge improvement in roll beavhiour, but still some drift when panning...
I've noticed that a precise set level XYZ can help against roll drifting... but without any roll input i notoced that roll drift is even reduced...

Firstly - I am a critic of PH like you. The phone discussion I had with the "technical help" showed quite simply a lack of social/phone help skill. I am trying to make this work after spending $$$ just like everyone else... I have been too busy lately to put the testing time in that I would have liked.

The manual covers a lot of weight and balance tuning and just how critical having the gimbal balanced (roll and tilt) is. Add to that the right way to configure gains and what to look for. The explainations are really good - very well written.

It is a complex beast that requires good mechanical and pc tuning and methodical plodding and fault finding skills - and patience. I suspect that combination alone will make it difficult to some. Not a personal dig at anyone - just a fact of life!
I think a well setup mount will work very well but I am concerned the skills of many may not be up to it. We can't all be brilliant! No I'm not talking about myself ;)

The interface / programming needs an overhaul - I believe they are working on it.

I suspect PH are currently terrified in what they are seeing from various people around the world and their brushless systems. They need to be open with their customers NOW.

I hope to get some testing this week. I want mine to work...
