Photohigher skyline rsgs

I noticed that xyz and z level is very important to be exactly straight! Could not get it right, but after using cross spirit laser, first tests look very good only the slightest drifts.

Would love to see some video taken on a gimbal controlled by v1.6 ;)

Does anyone have any hint on the tilt not working problem I wrote on post #2130? Still has not been solved and the wire works OK. I measured the wiring loom and it is faultless.

I noticed that there is a RSGS V2 available at Kopterworx. Is it somehow better? Does anybody know? I purchased the 360 degree pan system for AV130 and would like to get it work. Or is RSGS a thing to avoid in all it´s versions?

Thanks,

Ok, started from scratch. Centered the servos again.. Why they were not centered from the last time ( version 1.2, had to redo with version 1.6) is beyond me.
Carefully put everything back together. Added a small lock washer behind the skyline as I did notice I could move it with little effort.

TRIED to do set up routine. The tilt set up seems normal but it will only roll left( looking from the back)during set up ,
it then goes level and sits there in set up mode, it does not finalize like before.
I tried 8 times , same thing. Had to power cycle to get it out of set up, I tried disconnect software command and nothing happened.
I then Power cycled , went into set up and adjust gains, it seems to roll both directions, now it will disconnect from the software command,
but not when trying to do set up routine... pretty weird.

Will fly after breakfast..

I helped install a new Syline on friday and upgraded it to V1.6. I worked great on the bench and while moving it around the workshop by hand.. Its mounted on the multi now so hopefully we will see how it performs when flying.

My own SJLX4 has one fitted on a AV200 and it works great, I just need to spend some time tuning the copter and the SL

Seems to work well though. Maybe I am a bit luckier with mine..

Not sure if there is a version 2 hardware out. I know thee was V1 and V1.2. Mine is the latter.

Anyone got a V2?

Lanzar?

Cedric?

You need to look through the clear resin coating at the board. You will se some gold coloured writing with the version number

Avoid rsgs. I just installed a Radian on my av130 for roll and I am in heaven.

Mac, I do have video from 1.6 - I can post it in about 3 days as I'm out of town now. It's embarrassing. I'm currently saving up for another Radian to use for tilt so I can sell this hockey puck. Probably wasted about 100 hours of my life trying to get that thing to work. Radian cost me about 3 hours and works perfectly.

I also am frustrated with the av130. The pan kit has a useless servo and crummy gear ratio. The roll cage has to be tweaked just right so that it is smooth. The mounting plate doesn't allow you to balance the camera perfectly because of the limitations of the slots cut in it - makes you have to add ballast to get it right.

Huge mistake not going with Cinestar from the beginning. Live and learn.

Its generally not my style to be so negative, but I think it's important to tell the truth to spare some other people from falling into the same trap.

Best,

Tom

That is just not true tom. I operated a cinestar gimbal with radian, wich just had the same roll drift as skyline with previous version;)

Tell it as you see it Tom, do NOT apologise, that's the whole point of furms...to help each other & if that means telling people to avoid something & save thier time/money, then that's a great post to me. Far to many manufacturers in this game are selling sub standard equipment & using thier paying customers as guinea pigs...now that's not right, especially if paying top dollar!

The tilt is fine with the RSGS, so if anyone is after a tilt only setup, this would be great for you...but if you need roll stabilisation as well..."GO ELSEWHERE"

Dave can I follow on from your post.....

Can you guys who have great results & us poor guys with poor results answer the following questions?

1)Is your power supply comming from a BEC?
2)Are you using nicads to power your RSGS? (notice I said nicads & not lipos).
3)Do you setup with cam mounted on the gimbal?
4)Do you have a RC gimbal control (receiver mounted on gimbal)?
5)What computers system (CPU, RAM etc) are you using to update/setup your RSGS?

Regards
Ross

My answers=

1)BEC 12v (3s lipo down to 6v, 15A BEC)
2)Lipos (3s)
3)OFF
4)YES
5)3.4GHz I7 with 8GB RAM & 1GB video, windows 7

My answers=

1)UBEC 6v (4s lipo down to 6v, 10A BEC using common negitive with RX)
2)Lipos (4s main flight battery)
3)Cam on tray
4)Tilt-only control from the main Tx/Rx
5)Netbook, 1.6G 2G RAM XP. BSOD every time I try "monitor" tab. Requires reinstallation each time after BSOD - slightly frustrating

My answers are;

1) Yes - a Castle Creations BEC Pro putting out 6v straight into the RX
2) I use a 3S LiPo
3) I have set it up with my 5D on it & without. I think it performs better when I've set it up without. Also found having the Velocity Gains set to 0 whilst doing the AutoTune, then adjusting them once it's done its tuning thang. Main Gains don't seem to matter, nor do integral gain.
4) Yes - Separate TX/RX for 2nd operator pan & tilt.
5) I use an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook with an AMD A6-3430MX 1.7GHz quad core, 6GB RAM & Win 7 64 bit.

1)Dedicated 6v BEC for skyine.
2)Skyline powered from main flight packs (4s via above BEC) BEC has several loops in ferrite ring.
3)Cam/s always mounted on 2mm condenced foam flush to the tray.
4)Tilt only controlled with Rx (same Rx as flight controller, but only with sig wire.
5)Windows 7 running on bootcamp from Macbook Air 13" stock.
6) I had toast for breakfast
7) 4th cup of coffee for the day.

I'm trying to see if the RSGS software doesnt like certain processors or certain combinations of BEC/RX etc.
Thanks for replying so far gents...may I trouble you once more for your results....is it working as advertised or not?

Mine is NOT :(

Hi Nic,
I wish buy RSGS stabilization unit, but reading this thread i'm been quite scared....

You seems to be quite happy with it... it's possible to see a video of gimbal with v1.6 working? maybe at mirror...

many thanks,
Fabio

Fabio, just recovering from a crash, and only done some back yard testing.
1.6 Seems to behave itself nicely when flying around my house and next door. It's been very hot here in Australia, so not great for flying. It was 40 degrees Celsius today.
I'll get my spare camera (action cam Sony) mounted to the boom shooting back at the gimbal as soon as possible. Here's the table test without velocity gains added

Apart from an occasional slow drift of the pan (which I can live with as I have a camera operator) mine is working fine now with firmware 1.2. It has taken months of tweaking & experimentation though.

This is what I'm getting from it.

http://vimeo.com/elevationimages/demo

Only a tiny bit of post in Premiere. (5% smoothing if you know the software.) It crops the image by about 4% which is 77 pixels of the width by 43 pixels of height. Hardly noticeable.

I'm using an SJ8, AV200 with a 5D.

Mine is NOT... Had to cancel my shoot today..
version 1.6
Hand level as it will NOT go thru the complete set up procedure.
It actually gets very close for stability BUT... no matter where I place the camera ( NEX5) on the tray
It will roll to one side after I fly for a little time. ( less than 2 minutes maybe)
It starts out looking like ....YEAH I GOT IT...
then once I start moving the copter around it rolls left ( looking from the back about 20 to 30 degrees )
It will do this within seconds if I yaw the octo.
It then stays there no matter what but appears to be quite stable.
I just need to get chairs with shorter legs on one side so the clients do not notice and all will be good.
