Patiences is the best tool in the toolbox

First thing- find a propeller dealer in the U.S. :) Check out gotheli - they are a sponsor here and have great proper selection. Next is to do just what you're doing. Research here and learn more, more more!

    Next machine?

What's the budget you're thinking? That's the key to starting the build. Plenty of options, and if you're willing to build it yourself, you may be able to save some money.

Make channel 5 mode switch sbus taranis naza V2

you want to bind in mode 5. It's the one listed in the x8r manual with 2 jumpers on Channels 1-2 and 3-4. Then you need to make the CH selection in the Taranis 1-16. That option is on the first screen in the older companion 9X or right above the BIND function in the Taranis screen. If you have...

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

Where did you get the CF props that are that off? I got some decent ones from AddictiveRC (he specifically said the 15" were ok, but same brand of other size no good). Also, I think Range Video may sell some that are decent and reasonable.

    Frontline aerial footage

I was just thinking the other day - what would they do without the voiceover guy??? :) It's really heads above any of the other investigative journalism aired on television.

    Frontline aerial footage

Unfortunately no. I didn't catch anything at the end of the episode. I should see if I can find anything - it really was a great episode (sad and horrifying, but very well done).

Wow! I thought the internet froze up on that one shot - until you started talking about it being that still! :) Thanks for the review.

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

I've had more trouble with them than other props - but nothing like an entire bottle of CA. :) I also do more on the leading/trailing edge with the t-motor style props than on others where the hub has more meat to balance.

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

I've had the same experience with the cheap CF props. But I have been able to get them balanced - just takes more time. When I got them - I was willing to sacrifice the elbow grease more than the cash :)

    hi all.....nervous newbie!!

I think any of the ones I listed in the post a few back would help for practice. If you are asking about a multirotor that can capture video indoors, that's a whole different matter.

    hi all.....nervous newbie!!

Well, you need to start somewhere - so I day get out there and grab a practice quad. You might have luck with the computer simulator programs, Real Flight seems to be the most popular. Hobby or pro, you're going to want to fly safe, and that starts with practice. Get at it! :)

Gimbals & Encoders 2nd half 2015 Have we Arrived?

Hard drives are a mass market commodity today, but they were not decades ago. And I think it's safe to say that tech advancement is happening more rapidly now than it was in 1985 or even 1995. So how long do you reckon before your several orders of magnitude will be a distant view in the rear...

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

I have some wood props. Xoar is the Cadillac. They are fairly light and definitely rigid. I like them - but I think the CF I have are a nicer ride. Also, the CF are the ones that allow the quick-release, which at this point I'd put on every rig I have. The ease of use and peace of mind (I have...

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

The 3-blade deal is just more surface area for lift. I think it's the equivalent of adding 1.5" to your prop. But of course it needs more juice to spin it with the added weight, resistance etc. so that's where the efficiency loss comes in. The balancing of them weird me out a bit. You can only...
