    Next machine?

Since it's open source (both hardware and software) - there have always been alternatives to the 3DR branded FCs. The guy at readytoflyquads.com puts together a pretty good package, from what I can tell.

    Product Review - **DJI Phantom 2 w/ H3-2D Gimbal

If you're in the market for a great backpack/transport for the Phantom series - check out the review for the ThinkTank bag. Different take on a case. More photo bag than pelican case.

Not sure if you guys use (or have seen) the Hall sensor type current sensor. If you use it on one side, at least that's one side that would have no additional failure points. And it's rated much higher.

Yes. The official pixhawk is sold by 3DRobotics.

    Next machine?

The pixhawk is the latest iteration of the ardupilot line. Definitely worth getting the latest - since they have added feature I do not believe are available on the older 2.5/2.6 - like auto tune.

    Next machine?

I just sold a 680Pro. Pretty cool machine - and the folding aspect was key for me. I think it's also a bit more rigid - and can probably handle a bit more payload. But you're not going to lift a ton - so it may not be an advantage. Good luck and let us know how you decide.

They can all be upgraded. Probably no reason not to start that way though. You just need to start putting a list of parts together to determine price to UK. Again, that build thread will give you the basics to base your list on. Then you can pick and choose alternates if you wish.

Gotcha. I just sold a vector for that exact reason. I liked the OSD for when I wanted it - but I didn't want to NEED it to do basic stuff. It also had issues displaying clearly on my FPV monitor - so getting the most basic stuff done was a nightmare. Also, the manual was awful. Not sure why...

The C rating won't effect your power in the way you need. The motor will pull what it needs based on the props and stick input. Propping down could help. Question I should have asked long ago: why did you switch from the vector if it worked so well for you???

Also, I have only seen your list of motors/props and battery. To really determine how off the power/weight ratio is - we'd need the specific AUW (total including battery) and the specific model of the sunnysky motors (are they the V series 5308?).

You could just strap something on there to balance the weight/power ratio a bit. Good luck. Don't hit the church! :) You can set a beep at 50% throttle in the Taranis. Not sure where that is in the menus (I do it on the computer). Helpful though. Realize too that there is an "auto takeoff"...

Almost bought a 70 up here in Vermont. Too many projects already though. :) Have you don't the calculations for how much thrust your motors will provide vs the overall weight of the MR? Is it dropping at 50% throttle, or rising? If you see people hovering perfectly in videos, chances are they...

Yep. Restore/customize and make custom parts - tail lights mostly. That '68 BSA would buy you a bunch of MultiRotors if you had it now :)

Sounds great. Looking forward to it.

My pleasure. Gotta know when to step back. I'm right there with you dealing with the gimbals right now. Sometimes it just takes a DEEP breath :)

Sounds like there's something serious going on. Best to move on to something you can have confidence in. With the throttle at -17, you wouldn't want to fly it that way either.

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

I based mine off the Vulcan. That's what I have on my Vulcan frame- and the QR bolts broke under normal strain - which really pissed me off. I had to replace them with Allen head bolts - which makes it not so quick. And their pricing is high. So I decided to make my own. The rail system is how...

Make channel 5 mode switch sbus taranis naza V2

To wait for full sats - it typically takes a minute or three. There is a series of red lights (when in GPS mode on the ground) that will show you how many sats you have. It's explained on page 13 in the manual. If the quad flew fine with Vector - it must be the Naza. If you're sure everything...

If your throttle is showing -17, where are you seeing that? You may need to go into the mixer window and make sure you do t have any offsets (moves center) or end points moved. In wondering if more got damaged than just the USB port??? I've never had the LEDs misread what mode they were in. I...
