Sony Nex-5n - downlink

Hacking these are sort of a pain, I went ahead and ordered the FreeFly systems HDMI converter and it worked perfectly. Took me about 35 minutes to setup.

Thanks ryanroberts1983 for your answer, but I don´t mind to solder and I think FreeFly System is a bit expensive.... but thanks a lot.

Damn my mini hdmi2av converter isn't working again after i tried overlay it with OSD. Damn!
It wouldn't kick my 5R into video out this time. But it could kick a Canon EOS M into video mode but not display video. haih...

I think you got the wrong one. The White one takes RCA input and turns it into HDMI output. You need the Black box which takes the HDMI and converts it to RCA. Dont feel bad. I ordered like 10 of the white ones only to find out I got the wrong ones lol.

Hi Guys!!! I haver the withe box AV2HDMI converter, can you please tell me where to solder it because is a bit different from the others, thanks a lot...

You get the AV2HDMI (upscaler) AND the HDMI2AV as a white box.....I got a couple of both of them laying arround. The HDMI2AV is useful if you go from the Video receiver into a monitor without AV-In...like my SmallHD monitor. Not the greatest picture (just upscaled), but doing the job.

Situation, I have a Sony NEX 5n, together with a video downlink system and a 7' monitor. I followed instructions from this thread.
I connected it all up, but most of the time I had no signal and a rolling screen. How is this possible? I tried changing channels but that didn't do a thing. Sometimes I have an image but then it stops and shows me a blue screen. Sometimes my image is black and white only, always rolling.

Kolb,

It sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere, faulty crimp terminal or plug, on the video signal wire.

Kolb....are you 100 % positive that the video transmitter and video receiver are compatible....?

Check here, Post #6: http://www.multirotorforums.com/sho...e-Immersion-RC-equipment&highlight=32+channel

Other possibility is that you have somewhere a ground-loop....that happens mostly if you have two power sources (1x Lipo for your copter and another Lipo for video equipment for example....)

Or it's not grounded at all.....

Check here to get the idea: http://fpvlab.com/forums/showthread...les-*Video*-Please-help&highlight=ground+loop

This is the setup I am using.
I had the DJI iOSD setup in between, removed that one out of the loop, resoldered everything. Still nothing. Reopened my HDMI2AV box again to check connections. I only had one extension going to the video and one as a ground next to the usb. No positive wire as this thing is powered on my HDMI cable. Everything seemed to be a perfect solder, but for the heck of it I redid it. Still nothing. I can't even get a signal on my monitor now. Where I previously had that rolling black and white screen, oh yes for 5 seconds I had a clear colour screen, I now have no signal coming through.

Here is a simplified wiring overview .

Appreciate the efforts gents!

Well, it seems that my hdmi cable is not able to power the HDMI2AV board after all, although the blue LED flashes whilst being powered through HDMI.
I connected a mini USB connector in it and bam, it is working.

I really hope my buck converter arrives in the mail anytime now, come on Hong Kong!

Couldn't see from your post that you are using the HDMI2AV board.....the USB-connector on that board is just for powering the board....doesn't work without power (I think it's 5V or 5,5 V)

Glad you could sort it out.

hi
i have my nex 5 and mini hdmi2av white box converter (powered from 600mw tx) working fine and connected to my iOSD MKii also working fine connected to my ImmersionRC 5.8GHz Long Range 600mW Transmitter
However even though the picture quality is fine the actual picture appears squashed like it is 4:3 instead of 16:9 aspect ratio ( i am viewing on a toughbook cf-29 4:3 touchscreen laptop set to 1024x768 win xp and my fatshark goggles ( replacing this setup with a immersionRC uno5800 for less cable clutter) which are plugged into a hauppage pctv 330e usb hybrid tv stick using pctv software to view live composite in but the pctv software is crap and continually freezes or crashes frightening thought if my x8 quad is out of view from the ground
I would welcome suggestions of how to get reliable unsquashed composite video into my toughbook without using my existing method which is crap! i would go the fpv monitor route but 10" monitors are far to small for me i want at least a 13" screen

also anyone know how to get rid of the right side of the picture showing the nex 5 menu buttons and dial

thanks

I have one of these on its way to hopefully work well with my existing immersionRC 600mw transmitter

http://www.goodluckbuy.com/mini-hdm...photography-telemetry-support-sony-5n-7n.html

I think you will end up with the same board as below all mine work perfectly with my 600mw tx
i did need to take the 5+ volt (red wire ) from my 600mw tx and the ground ( black wire ) in the 5 wire video cable and solder to all the boards to stop them from blue sceening after a few seconds with them connected to my nex 5

I have ended up with the same ( all the boards are the same by buying a
http://www.goodluckbuy.com/18cm-fpv-super-soft-hdmi-cable-mini-interface-to-standard-interface-for-sony-5n-aerial-photography.html
and a
http://www.goodluckbuy.com/hdv-m610-mini-hdmi-to-cvbs-lr-audio-converter-adapter-scaler-.html
and
same board thats in the mini
http://www.goodluckbuy.com/fpv-aeri...v-converter-diy-pcb-board-for-5n-7n-gh2-.html

why 3? converters
because one dint turn up after a month ordered another from a bay (ended up being same googluckbur but called gadgetinfinite anyway first one turned up then so had 2 )

why the mini hdmi2av because of my previous post cant get full unsquashed live video on my toughbook when connected these boards to my nex 5 i thought this 3rd one would work but its the same board as the others and still cant get unsquashed video 3 boards later!!!!!!!!!!

So finally when you get yours if you connect it using nex 5 let me know if you get UNSQUASED video please
I have ordered a 12" foxtech fpv screen and a uno5800 to eliminate the usb stick video capture to see if that solves my problem

I will certainly let you know. Think it'll be quite a while until it arrives unfortunately.

On another topic.. Should I leave OSS on or not when then camera is mounted on my gimbal?

thanks for that
i have also managed to get unsqashed video now
but cant get rid of the menu buttons displaying on the right side of screen

am going with a 700 line Sony HAD attached to the underneath of gimbal the nex is attached to
then use nex 5 with a 2 way av switcher just to make sure the nex is recording ok
all because the nex 5 menu buttons on right are annoying me

After weeks of frustration and reading every thread and all the posts regarding this problem with the HDMI2AV
converter not allowing the Sony NEX to display a perfect video image. I finally got it to work without any extra
5v power from the ImmersionRC EzOSD or the vTx, or even from an additional dedicated power source and does
not require any mods to the HDMI2AV board. The solution was from all of your posts on all of the threads, but
it came from combining all of the pertinent comments and then reviewing all of them. Here is the solution....and
it WORKS!

1. Make sure you have the right converter: HDMI2AV White or Black case does not matter.
2. Use any short (1 1/2 ft. to 3 ft.) very flexible HDMI to mini HDMI cable. This is needed so
that the cable does not interfere with, and or restrict, the proper gimbal movements
3. Plug standard HDMI male end into the converter and the mini end into the Sony NEX camera.
4. In the NEX settings menu, change the "hdmi setting" to 1080i
5. In the NEX settings menu, change the "control for hdmi" to ON
6. Power up the EzOSD and the vTx and your goggles or base station monitor or both
7. Now turn on the NEX and you will see the exact image that the NEX is seeing
8. There is no need for any extra 5v power to the converter because it is, for sure, that the
HDMI2AV gets its power from the NEX internal battery. Yes it does drain some of the
power from the NEX battery, but not that much where it would ruin a days shoot. Just
to be safe, get a spare NEX battery.

And that's the name of that tune! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh..................Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
