I would suggest plugging in the numbers from a Taranis found HERE: it's $60 more for what in essence is a $500 transmitter. The features and cheap add-ons are staggering for the price. Local shipping too.

For or batteries, check out readymade RC. They have good quality, and they're pretty light which will equate to longer flight times. Again, local shipping.

Also, where are you getting props? I would suggest maybe going something like APC or HQPROPS slow flyers or e-props at first. Carbon are more fragile, so taking into account the learning curve.... You can get good prices at gotheli.com or almost anywhere. Again, USA seller. Actually, you can get discounts on multiple props HERE. And wouldn't you know...USA seller :)

Hopefully that doesn't screw the budget much. Maybe the USA shipping will help offset.

I think the f550 is a really good choice for you right now. It really comes down to getting a great MR without breaking the bank. And this way you hopefully have a little in reserve.

Is UAV out of the f550 ARF kits????

Checking these now! This could definitely help. I've tried finding every RC site I can on this side, thanks for the links.

The props were coming from Helipal along with my Tx/Rx, and Battery. Hoping now I can source those three to a US site. Faster, and cheaper shipping would be awesome!

And yes the Naza v2 comes with the ARF kit from UAV Products.com

I notice alot of prop packages come with a pair of 1 normal rotation, and 1 reverse rotation prop. Do both of these work on an f550

This is looking like the final sourced build:

(1) DJI F550 Frame
(1) Naza V2 w/ GPS
(6) Included Motors "E300 Propulsion Kit"
(6) Included ESC (15A)

$549 @ UAV Products

---

(1) RMRC 5100mAh 4s 35C Lipo
(6) Gemfan 11x4.7 Slow fly Propeller, Says two in a pack, one reverse?

$99 @ ReadyMade RC

---

(1) FRSKY Taranis x 8xr Combo

$229 @ Aloft Hobbies

-------

Overall $877 on a build. I couldn't be happier with the help of this forums to find these parts and right around my budget. I know this will be a great rig to start and learn with. Now all I need next is a gimbal that's not more expensive than my whole rig!!! HAHA

Here's a good learning gimbal for you. RTF GIMBAL

have you checked the prop size and batteries in eCalc? I ask because before you had 3S and 10" props. Not sure which is best - just trying to think of variables.

Hmm no I haven't. I'll have to look that up. Alot of people have suggested larger props, the f550 comes with stock 10" so I figured a size up may work? I can definitely stick with the 10" though, NON CF also!! These are the ones I looked at in my build:

check out the HQPROPS HERE. In my experience they have been MUCH easier to balance. Basically same size.

I don't think eCalc has the info for DJI motors. I can check. But just see what others are running and you should be all set.

I forgot about the props that come with the hex. Those can be your practice props. :)

Haha exactly! Going to start with the stock props for the first few flights, incase of any (knock on wood) crashing . Do those HQ props come with one in reverse and one normal, is that what I need? Not too educated on that yet. Google time!

No, you'll see an "R" after the ones that are the opposite direction. You need half CW and half CCW - so each set has 2 of a particular direction.

Many manufacturers designate them as no symbol at all and the oppose is "R." Sorta like left and right I guess. Others call one a pusher from airplanes.

Gotcha! So I guess the kit with both clockwise and counter-clockwise props will be good. Was wondering if I need to order more propellers if only one piece from each pair works. So that's good to hear

STOP THE PRESS!!!!! I forgot that you are going to need DJI specific type props for the shaft diameter.

So sorry, man that was close!

Also, the choices for prop size (diameter) are very different for 3S and 4S. So make sure you do some research about that.

Saved the day, once again Scott!! Lol

Of course the DJI props on RMRC are out of stock. My luck, But I'll continue looking for 10 or 11" DJI Props. Does my battery's output determine the props that can work?

yes. I think I saw somewhere that a 3S is looking 10" (or if you've found other builds that have a better option), while the 4S was recommended at much less. Again, I don't want to get you all confused, because I don't have the f550 (and specific propulsion kit). Check some successful builds, or post a specific question about batts and props. Lots of people flying these.

The DJI prop shaft hole is 8mm I think. Check GOTHELI. I get all my props from them usually - cheap and quick, and free jolly rancher in every package :). And he's got RED BOLD writing on each prop that fits DJI for idiots like me who forget they have a special size!!!!

Good call! I'm on it now. Going to settle on 10" just to be safe

Literally purchased my F550 kit 10 minutes ago, only to receive an email/refund because the item should have been listed out of stock. BUMMER!! Onto the next search (my luck)

That sucks. I thought I had seen it listed as out of stock on UAV. But I figured it was different, that maybe the Naza V2 was in stock.

Youll find it.

PCM and all:
Don't you guys think 15 amp escs are going to be a bit limiting for when you want to upgrade motors? I would think at least 30a, no?
Also do the dji motors in the e300 setup have a notched shaft like those from previous naza kits?

Regarding the gimbal: I've been very happy with the gaui crane 3, which can accommodate a gopro or sony nex.

Oh and if you're interested in piecing a 550 together, I'm selling 6 arms and motors in the parts forum.
Someone was interested but I haven't heard back.

I for one found the 15A to be a concern - but I really don't know much about the DJI stuff, let alone the kits/propulsion packs.

I think ink piecing the whole thing together may have seemed a bit much for PCM, but of course it would probably create a slammin' hex if done that way. Not sure how it would shake out financially - because I can't really wrap my head around prices for ARF with and without FC.

thats A great deal on the arms/motors Jay!

jay, this is a servo gimbal? Just curious if you've had a chance to compare it to a similar priced brushless gimbal? The brushless market prices are dropping like a stone. Hoping I'll get my next gimbal for about 37¢ :)
