    A2 fly-away and crash

Agreed. But the idea here is safety. Much better to dump it in the water than having it fly off in an unknown direction and possibly cause damage/injury. But like you say, there's no perfect answer. A self destruct mechanism might be useful. :) If you really want to be safe you could have a...

    Battery switch suggestion

Don't is the best advice. I've been looking in to this recently as I'd like to have a remote kill switch on my copters. The switches required are large and they heat up due to the current. If it's the sparking that's bothering you - I have some XT90 spark-less connectors here to try but a...

    A2 fly-away and crash

Given that operators seem to be caught out by the home location not recording and issues with GPS I'm wondering if a better failsafe option might be to hover rather than go home? At least then you have some time to figure out what's going on and hopefully regain control. Of course, if you don't...

    A2 fly-away and crash

Isn't the home location recorded in the log? Although I fly with DJI FC as well, I think it should be a requirement for flight controllers to provide full logging of all parameters and flight details. It's the only way you can do forensics. That information is probably in the logs but only DJI...

    3DR Solo in Malta

I really like seeing 3DR pushing the envelope. But I have a hard time believing a GoPro 4 produces video suitable for a feature movie. There are so many other options that give much better results.

    3DR, What's up?

Why would they be testing the Pixhawk 2 in China if they are being assembled in Mexico? Where are you getting your information?

    Basic Camera questions...

A lot of people trip the camera via it's IR control but I found that unreliable and it has quite a delay which was a real issue. It's quite easy to modify a Sony NEX 5 to use a wired release which can then be connected to your flight controller.

    Safe wind and descent speed?

On my hexa and octo with payload I keep my descents under 1 mtr/sec. Any faster and it takes quite a bit of thrust to stop the descent. I also avoid coming down through the prop wash by descending at an angle.

    Best setup for RED Epic

Aeronavics makes great frames/systems to carry a Red. I'm a fan boy as it says in my signature. Made by a great team of people in New Zealand.

    Black Cloud - SERIOUSLY?!?!?!

The cat ate my drone. Now there's a new one I never thought I'd hear.

Little Crazy...GoPro 4 vs DJI 4k...But what happens when 8k is standard?

My experience with the Inspire has been great. As SleepyC said, you take it out of the case and go for a fly with the minimum of fuss yet you get fantastic visual results. For me, that's what it's all about. I can't understand why there is no logging available or way point flying for mapping...

    Pixhawk motor test

Have you calibrated your ESCs and done the radio calibration in Mission Planner. Sounds like your endpoints are off.

    Hexacopter spinning while in flight

Every time I've experienced this the issue has been that the motors were not level. You'd think the flight controller would compensate but not in my case. Another time that I had this issue I found that there were some rudder offsets in my parameters that I know I didn't put there. There was...

    Humbled...

A requirement for me is logging. I just can't believe that some of the systems out there claim to be professional but have no way to record where the system has been or to repeat a previous flight. Not to mention troubleshooting if something goes wrong.

    Logbook?

Wow, someone actually recently wrote a program to do just this. See https://github.com/wilselby/ArduPilotRecordBook if interested. Once I get it up and running I'll post more info.

What did you do with your Iris+ today??

Have you seen the video of the 3DR sales person flying a Solo in a crowded parking lot and flying it in to a truck because it was facing in and she flew it in the wrong direction? As it bounced off the truck it also hit a person. So much for "it used to require skill".

Aeronavics / Droidworx Transport of AD6

I have an Aeronavics XM6 which would be very similar to yours. I took it on an overseas trip inside a Pelican 1740 case which worked fine. All I had to do was remove the outer mount clamps on four of the arms so they could pivot inwards. I'm glad I invested in the case. Although it was put...

    Humbled...

That's a perfect analogy. I think everyone ignores the elephant in the room when it comes to this business. We all brush these incidents off until it happens to us. Then we start asking the hard questions. Unfortunately we don't have the hard data we need to determine what is going on. We...
