3DR Sight Gimbal for SOLO arrives at Bestbuy.com

Perhaps it's just a matter of "wait and see". There has been much too much anti 3DR-Solo vitriol generated by the DJI community. Some deserved, much not. One could almost view some of what has been taking place as slander and deliberate attempts to discredit to damage 3DR sales volume. 3DR...

Motors: Facing Up vs. Facing Down

My first thought upon reading the thread title was "depends on what she looks like", but that wasn't quite what you were looking for...... I would think props up would be a skosh more efficient. Cleaner air ahead of the blade's incoming side.

Can't Get Off the Ground - Possibly Bad Flight Controller?

I have this X-8 that when setting it up I checked everything 3 times to be certain all was correct. Went out in the yard to power it up for a test flight and no matter how much throttle was applied all it would do is just spin the props faster and shake a lot. Stopped and checked everything...

One prop, two chunks of GPS mast so far!

There are many mission profiles that require automated way point flying to obtain the precision necessary to fulfill the mission requirements. Agricultural and mapping activities are two that pretty much mandate such use. The operator still maintains the ability to over ride the system and...

    sale statistics

Last I read on another forum had DJI putting over 100,000 RTF's up in the U.S. over the last couple years. Toss in Yuneec, Hangar 9, Walkera, 3D Robotics, and a lot of smaller stuff and that number probably more than doubles. This last Christmas season had Amazon alone moving well over 10,000...

    Brendan Schulman

Seems Mr. Schulman has taken a vice president's position with DJI. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/innovations/wp/2015/07/15/dji-brings-on-leading-drone-lawyer-brendan-schulman/

    CF prop options

I have this thing about sanding carbon and do it only when no other options are possible. Instead I add weight to the light blades using thinned epoxy or thin CA glue to the back side of the blades. Some use clear tape but you can't depend on it to remain stuck to the blade forever.

    Airborne Mechatronics - Heavylift KX-8

Good to know about the bullets. I was concerned they might have just been a potted fit which would not endure over time and multiple insertions/separations. Some kind of "keeper" as you described or a special design bullet with a threaded fit could endure. The snap ring arrangement could also...

    Tarot T810 Help Needed

The clamp screws are m3 x 10, 24 required. The ones securing the plate are the hard ones because they are a "shoulder" screw of a special Tarot type where the shoulder has a larger diameter than the threads to recess into the carbon plate for alignment. The actual dimensions are listed as m2.5...

1100mm hex build. Hexacrafter, T-Motor, A2. Oh my.

The secondary "through" switch sounds like a good idea. I wonder if placing a capacitor after the switch might limit surge to the low current devices? Now that I'm thinking of it, perhaps a fully switched system at multiple levels might be a better means of preventing damage to all components...

One prop, two chunks of GPS mast so far!

Pixhawk should accept that range. I agree, reserve Solo/Pixhawk-2 discussion for another day.

One prop, two chunks of GPS mast so far!

Pixhawk is supposed to disarm after tipping but the new Pixhawk-2 seems to be failing to do that with the Solo it's currently fitted to. I've never had a fail to disarm upon tip issue with Pixhawk-1, but I've only rolled one a few times so the experience is a bit limited. What are the throttle...

    Need some less expensive motors

It's what an aerospace company pays me for... Multirotors are pretty much a natural evolution for me. A lot of years in hobby level film/SLR photography, full scale aerial photography, decades in RC, years flying UAV's in the sandbox. military ISR payloads and separate non professional...

One prop, two chunks of GPS mast so far!

I'd guess a lateral balance would be more of an issue than vertical. Are you trying to ease up with the throttle for lift off or "pop" it off the ground? You've used the term "popping up" a couple times but I'm not clear how that was referencing. Try literally popping the throttle quickly to...
