Need some less expensive motors

Bartman

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Hi everyone,

Is there such a thing as a good bargain brand of motors? I've got a frame with ESC's and I just need eight motors for it so I can get it back in the air.

6S, about 450kv, something similar to a Tiger 4008-18 would be perfect.

Thanks!
Bart

yes, those would be a good option, thanks for the specific motor link too!

isn't Banggood.com known for shipping Sunnysky countefeits though? i'll have to look around for a better supplier but thanks for the lead.

what about a Zenoah GT-80, are they any good?

I agree with the sunny sky motors. Good motor for the money in the 3 versions I've had.

Buddyrc carries them as well here in the states.

The Zenoah GT-80 is pretty much a benchmark engine. Not the most modern, or the lightest, and to obtain the best performance needs to spin at a higher RPM level than some other 80's, but the engine is pretty much bullet proof. As one well respected gentleman before me has said many times, I don't know of any that have ever been worn out in normal use. Under heavy racing condition, yes, but in normal use the user will likely die of old age before the engine does. The Zenoah line of engines has been the design foundation for a great many engines that have tried to copy them. For casual sport flying, racing, and larger scale platforms it won't do you wrong. For 3d stuff you might choose something a bit lighter that likes larger props at lower RPM.

BTW, I don't buy from Banggood, just used the link to depict the Sunnysky product;) Not sure but Addictive RC might handle them here at home.

thanks Pat! there's a giant scale plane I'm considering that has a GT-80 on it. never had one, figured they're a little heavy but reliable like the rest of Z's engines. :)

but i've also got that BME-102 sitting around so that might go in place of the -80. :)

The BME 102 is another that established new performance standards. Keith Baker did it right with the 102 and it formed the basis for the 105 and the later problem prone 115, which evolved into a super performer with the reed and carb change making it the 116. I have the second 115 ever produced and it's one very strong engine. The 102 is an Echo based engine so a little work can ferret out gasket sets and such if needed. Fly it until it wears itself out, you won't be disappointed. The only caveat for any of the BME line is to assure you provide good airflow through the engine, don't tune them lean, and use no less than a 50-1 oil ratio. They also work well with more oil, but not less.

You keep taking me back to my roots;) Memory lane isn't a bad thing:)

thanks for the lesson Old Man Pat! so many people here are learning multi-rotor helicopters while already having established themselves as experts in their fields. it cracks me up how much you know about gassers!

It's what an aerospace company pays me for...

Multirotors are pretty much a natural evolution for me. A lot of years in hobby level film/SLR photography, full scale aerial photography, decades in RC, years flying UAV's in the sandbox. military ISR payloads and separate non professional associations with people that develop specialized aerial optics. What could be a more natural fit? Now all I have to do is get good at it, and the only way I see that going as well as I want is to get away from the UAV stuff.
