    Representation for Commercial sUAS

Don't feel that way because each and every one of us can play an integral part in what we will have to live with as the process moves forward. All that's required is a willingness to put in print our individual opinions, some background on how that opinion was formed, and submit it during the...

Incredible HLQ project! (Gasoline Powered Quad!)

Too heavy. That thing as it stands should be able to dead lift a bit over 100 pounds if they prop it right. However, mods to make it less noisy will rob some of the available power. It still won't be as quiet as an electric bird though.

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

There's a meeting with the ACUAS tonight and this topic is part of the conversation. In all probability my proposed regulation suggestions will end up posted on the ACUAS site. If that occurs I'll post a link to the location and perhaps get some people engaged with their opinions. Those...

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

Scott, The Light Sport concept was and is well intentioned to get new blood into aviation. There was hope people would transition from Light Sport into the more formal aviation classes but that hasn't gone as well as hoped for. The general aviation manufacturers have pretty much priced...

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

Pepper, I understand where you're coming from, I really do. The FAA for the most part is not looking at things from a father/Son perspective but one that aligns more with large commercial operations such as those conducted by aerospace manufacturers. I believe that for those organizations the...

Incredible HLQ project! (Gasoline Powered Quad!)

A pair of 100cc gas engines is going to consume quite a lot of fuel so the tank design and location will be interesting. I would change engine manufacturers for something at this investment level to ones with a strong history of long term dependability. This is what I do for a living (UAV gas...

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

That's the point. The regs being proposed through the 333's are what has been presented for use by the aerospace corporations. The ones that have thousands of people working for them, the ones that additional regulatory steps won't have any real impact on. I've already seen company...

    DJI Phantom No Fly Zones

Sorry, but if you're flying a DJI product at a full scale airport you haven't done your due diligence. Especially with a Phantom. Your first "fly away" will be the end of your operating waiver. Might want to stay in manual modes, or build a small something or other using a different FC that...

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

Pepper, We're about to move in one way or another into the real aviation community. That will happen without our input while we go down kicking and screaming, or with our input proposing regulatory alternatives to what we can expect based upon what they have done so far. I'd prefer having...

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

Most of us have at some point complained about "this and that" relative to the FAA and upcoming regulations. What we haven't done a lot of is put to print our thoughts about what would or could be realistic and reasonable regulations for us to operate under. I'd like to expand on that a bit...

    lets define "minimal quadcopter"

This kind of creativity is why they'll never, ever be able to completely control what we do regardless of some regulatory process. I love it!

    I need some led strips.

Now that's an interesting concept. Nice tip!!

    I need some led strips.

Amazon.com They have everything you can order from the China suppliers at about the same price. Mr experiences have ended up getting more length with a better product for equal or better pricing. Just take a few minutes to look through the selections.

    What FC

Rob, Understand I used two extremes for the example. I'm not one to spend too much time on balancing props either. Hub imbalances with our stuff is negligible (skinny hubs) so only blade work is necessary. Spending a bit isolating the FC components also goes far to a nicely performing...

    Prop Spacer Installation?

Haven't used T-Motor props requiring a spacer/reducer but it sounds like the props are in the small to medium size category and use a reducer to size the pilot hole to match the motor shaft. If that's the case then the tapered end, meaning smaller end, goes towards the face of the prop. The...

    What FC

Have to agree with Bart here about prop balancing. Using a 3DR quad run with APM and a hard mounted Go Pro I experienced some jello in the video at all times. Balanced the props and the jello went away. Had the same occur with a custom built 650 using Pixhawk. No jello after prop balancing...

    Horrendous flight time!!

Try moving the video transmitter and antenna to one of the landing gear legs, antenna pointing down or horizontal. That usually helps a lot.

    Horrendous flight time!!

One develops a "feel" for flight time by keeping an accurate record of each flight, how the aircraft was flown, and what the battery voltage was when it was put on the charger along with the mA count of what went back into it when the charge cycle was done. Doesn't hurt to track the charge...

GoPro will soon be manufacturing drones.

It all comes down to sales volume. Go Pro has a much wider and diverse world market than DJI ever will, and Go Pro has not yet developed a reputation of horrid customer service. The multirotor market, regardless of how it's packaged, is actually pretty narrow in scope and customer quantity...

Your prop of choice and why?

There really is no difference between a T-Motor and Foxtech carbon prop in the large diameters. One might be single piece and the other in halves, but it's essentially the same prop. Same maker of props. SunnySky and T-motor, same maker of motors. Hobbywing and T-motor, same maker of ESC's.
