Hoverfly First time multi-rotor builder - need some help

It's fine to flash them mated. I flashed my HFP and GPS for the first time with them connected. The USB powers each as you connect it to the computer. Without the battery connected, the USB only powers the board it's plugged in to. Flash away with the latest firmware and be sure to use the same...

Hoverfly First time multi-rotor builder - need some help

yeah.... you figured it out.... the lettering faces top as you're looking down on the Y6. As the motors spin, picture the prop spinning with it and you want the air on all of them pushing down. Keep up the good work!

Hoverfly First time multi-rotor builder - need some help

That is absolutely correct. The nice thing about the coaxial setup is that all the motors are wired identically. Be sure when its time to mount the props, (you still need 3 regular and 3 pusher props) that you must mount them with the numbers facing up. The Pushers should go on the top and the...

Hoverfly First time multi-rotor builder - need some help

I think I set mine to low. I want as much power for as long as I can get it. When you're ready to fly, weigh it and go to ecalc and get an estimate of your flight time. Set a timer on your radio or have some sort of timer and as you approach that time limit, hover low to the ground. As your...

Hoverfly First time multi-rotor builder - need some help

I agree with Bowley. As you're building and testing, make a chart with A B C and under it Red Yellow Black. Wire up the ESC-motor-receiver-battery combo for an off-multi test, and note the direction it rotates. You'll eventually need two of this direction anyway. If it's CW, cool. If it's CCW...

    Hoverfly OK now I'm aggravated....

Yes. In fact several flights to get it trimmed and dialed in. I haven't seen any sort of anomaly in basic flying about. From my perspective, it's odd that it was slower acquiring a GPS lock in the font. From my uneducated eyes, it seems the log indicated a minimum of 8 satellites and a max of 9...

    Hoverfly OK now I'm aggravated....

Well... I got the flight log finally downloaded. There is some pretty cool information in there and I sent it off to HoverFly via Zendesk to see what they may have to say. Certainly at one point in the flight, with good satellite data, steady heading etc, the Hex pitched and went on a tangent...

    Hoverfly OK now I'm aggravated....

Thanks HoverFly! I got a reply from the Zendesk in about 20 minutes. It seems the log is stored on the mSD card by date. If there is more than one flight, it's appended. I think I'll be able to pull up the log and see what happened in the air. Now all I need is an mSD adapter. Radio Shack? My...

    Hoverfly OK now I'm aggravated....

Thanks Shawn, I filled out a Zendesk request. I'm thinking with the GPS installed, it could be saved on the mSD chip. That was my next step but I have to get the little adapter. Gosh this is aggravating. On another note, I flew again and started in the front where I've had issues. It seemed...

    Hoverfly OK now I'm aggravated....

HOW DO YOU DOWNLOAD A GOSH DARN FLIGHT LOG!?! I have tried twice. I have searched this forum, Zendesk, and I can't find it. I dis-armed this time and plugged it into the computer and it WOULDN'T CONNECT! I'm about to throw it all in the trash. I am at my wit's end.

    Hoverfly OK now I'm aggravated....

Hey Bart, I haven't tried that yet. I usually go where the sun is when I start up. If I can get the log out of this thing I may try that. It always acquires nicely in back. I may try facing it in a different position out back to see if the initial heading has anything to do with it. I am really...

    Hoverfly OK now I'm aggravated....

Ok... I almost lost the hex. It's DEAD calm. Clear Blue. I go out front where I have had a few issues with the GPS finding satellites and try again. It starts up, gets a green lock on in about a minute. I wait. No blue lock on. I fly. VERY SMOOTH! NICE! I rotate to the SSW and climb to about...

    Hoverfly Odd GPS behavior

Finally! I think I found the combination. I have to run to work (I'm gonna be late) but here is a video I posted. Not perfect but 1000x smoother. here goes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_R8dwrnNCw

    Hoverfly Odd GPS behavior

Yes, I'm using the latest firmware. I didn't recalibrate the accelerometers or temperature as I had done that as an X8. No change in firmware so I figured I was good to go. I did re-do the compass calibration as I took off the external magnetometer and stuck with the internal one. I'm going to...

    Hoverfly Odd GPS behavior

Lets see... I balanced up some 12x38 apc's and put them on. I have to say its much more smooth than the Xoar's. I even got about a minute longer flight time. Still some vibration in the video though but a huge improvement. What I've done now is to go to a smaller gimbal. I was using a RusticWave...

Hoverfly Finally gave the GPS board a try...

I'm going through all this now. I had my antenna on the main body adjacent to the HFP and a clear view of the sky. I had Issues with it sometimes taking 3-6 minutes to acquire and then sometimes it would acquire in a few seconds. I built a bracket out of aluminum and I get a blu lock nearly...

    Hoverfly Odd GPS behavior

They fit very snug on the shaft. I think it has something to do with the flex. I'm guessing though. The only way to tell I suppose, is to compare them to the APC's. Anyone have any experience with 12x38's as compared to 11x47's. I'm thinking I should get slightly more time. I don't know though.

    Hoverfly Odd GPS behavior

Well, after spending the better part of two days balancing the Xoar props, I've discovered that I need WAY lower gain than the APC's to fly smoothly. In fact, I've reduced the gain down about 25 points in the transmitter. I hate to say it, I think I like the APC's better. I've been flying...

    Hoverfly Odd GPS behavior

Yeah, it's a Rusty's frame. I didn't have any heading problems until that last flight but with so much vibration, I figured that was the issue. Still balancing and should be able to test again before dark.. I'll let ya know.
