3D Robotics (3DR) Iris Official Users' Thread

Gary, to be honest, I dunno what the heck happened! Same as with many computer problems I've solved over the years, spend hours uploading/downloading, this and that, and when it finally comes back to life, I've done/tried so many things, I couldn't tell you which one in particular did the trick...

3D Robotics (3DR) Iris Official Users' Thread

Well, I finally got most of the bugs worked out in my Iris+/Pixhawk, yesterday. Manually re-did the radio TX from scratch......one click at a time! http://3drobotics.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Controller-Reset-Procedure.pdf What a job! I should qualify for brain surgeon now! Then I watched...

3D Robotics (3DR) Iris Official Users' Thread

Thanks Gary. Yes, I've been watching/reading everything I can find about the Iris+/Pixhawk. If you were to ask anybody that has known me for awhile, they'll tell you, I just can't leave things alone! And it doesn't help that I started with Naza, then messed around with multiwii, kk2, and Naze...

3D Robotics (3DR) Iris Official Users' Thread

OK, quick question. I know I can search, and search, but does anyone have links to "reload" both the Iris+, and the Flysky TH9 radio, back to the defaults. I've somehow screwed up one, or the other, and no longer get info on my TX screen. Only shows battery voltage of TX. NO sats, dist, etc...

3D Robotics (3DR) Iris Official Users' Thread

Gary, it does come with a FrySky TH9 radio, with a custom program loaded. And I found no option to buy without a radio. But I'm pretty sure you could use another radio, as long as it's programmed/setup right. I also believe I read that the custom program with the included radio is open source...

    IRIS+

Did a little grinding, and worked my battery wires to the outside, so I can connect/disconnect, with the door closed. Test flight, dogging trees in my backyard jungle. Had GPS lock, even with all the trees! Still learning, but having fun! P.S. edit.... the jello is not from the Iris, but the...

    newest version?

OK, I can't resist, buy the newest thing out there, and wait 2 weeks, and there will be a newer one out there! I've sworn for years and years, that we're getting all this micro technology from a captured spacecraft from another galaxy! Seems as if things are progressing way too fast for just us...

    ground station

Good question. Ever wonder why everybody says that a simple dipole antenna, like comes with almost every video TX is junk? Yet look at any radio TX, what do you see, a simple dipole antenna. I did see a you tube somewhere, where the guy had a clover leaf type antenna on his radio, in place of...

JR Ninja X? Looks like a Variable Pitch HL Quad?

I've read that controlling the "yaw" was the big hurtle for Curtis Youngblood's "Stingray", but they seem to have figured it out. Those pics of the nylon gears reminded me of an old Kyosho "nexus" I have hanging in my barn...

    How Do We Fix Stupid?

Sorry, but I still don't understand all this who-ha. "Multirotors" got named "Drones" by the media. So everyone thinks of death and destruction. "Multirotors" allow people to fly in their yards, in their homes, work places, up and down the street, around and around, "mostly" with no problems...

    Lipos: IR or puffiness?

ehhh, I've got a few that I flew too long, and they got hot and puffy. They are never the same again. Mine will take a charge, show good readings, but they seem to drop off rather quickly. LiPo's are somewhat delicate compared to the old ni-cads.

Aerial view of Bangkok at 7′ in the morning.

Absolutely beautiful. Man has that place grown. I spent 7 days there on R&R from Viet Nam, in 1968. Spent $1000 on nothing but women and booze. Best time I'll ever have.

Pixhawk / Tx or ESC problem - motors running way too fast

So Flydigital, how's it going? Did you get the bugs ironed out?

Pixhawk px4 vs Dji Wookong for Aerial photography

I had been researching autonomous flight for quite awhile, and the prices scared me away, not to mention all the tweaking, calibrating, bad reviews, etc. etc. So I just got an IRIS+. Comes with a Flysky radio with a custom program, all setup, test flown, ready to go, so to speak. I could have...

    IRIS+

Bart, I will probably add a video TX and hook it to the GoPro, just for framing shots. With the long legs attached, it ain't quite a FPV machine. Too easy to snag branches etc. You have to get used to the Pixhawk. More of a "robotic" feel than a Naze or Naza or KK2. I had a moment when I went to...

    IRIS+

Hi Bart, yes it is. I'm a nut, and proudly admit it. I first tried buying my Iris+ on the 3dr site, but couldn't get the page to act right. So, did a quick search on Amazon, (I'm a prime member), and found the Iris+ there, for the same price. Sooooo, I did the "one click" thing, and ordered it...

    IRIS+

First flight, right out of the box, no tweaking, adjusting, calibrating, nuttin. I like it! Still haven't linked to my tablet, for autonomous flight, but will soon. You can tell, this is a "camera" ship. Nice and easy, slow and steady, as compared to some of my 250's! Got over 10 minutes with...

Frame only or Kit (ESC, Motors included)

I'd suggest a "REAL" DJI F450 kit, the new kits have the upgraded E300 motors and ESC's and props. Cheaper than piecing together. http://www.getfpv.com/dji-flamewheel-f450-arf-kit.html

    Gimbal options for Iris+

I just ordered an Iris+ yesterday. I've been wanting to get into the "waypoint autonomous" flying, for quite awhile, but could decide on what to buy. I could have just ordered a Pixhawk, and all the necessary extras to make it work, probably well over $300, but The Iris+ seems to have it all...
