    New Zealand "hover" in

I was keeping my eye on them and the openpilot project also. I still like the KK and multiwii boards because they are inexpensive and good for beaters. The multiwii may be even better because of the ability to auto level by means of the accelerometers.

    New Zealand "hover" in

Thanks for the video and pics. Looks like you guys had a good time. Lots of KK boards in NZ. Minsoo has done a fine job with his version of the KK board. I'm thinking about buying one just to have. Then again, I wonder what the multiwii guys are up to. I haven't checked into the RCG thread in...

    Lighting up your Bird

The ability of the MK FC to power (ground) LEDs is somewhat limited. How many LEDs are you talking about? Do you have a distribution board with the LED transistor circuit pads on it?

    Twin Copter flying wing?

Has anyone seen such a beast? I was thinking of something like below but built into a flying wing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rK61Q0crRGo Here's a winged quad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWTi2Dgh0Fw The goal would be to have a FPV craft with gliding and hover ability. Has anyone seen one?

    Battery combinations and connectors

I now use XT60 connectors. I never liked combining packs to make a 4s. It's 3 connectors that can fail rather than one and the extra connection adds some unnecessary resistance. Also, I thought that the cells in a quality pack were matched in some way, shape, or form. (I don't know how much...

    Improved GPS Hold Thought

It is more involved than it appears. On the .us forum, Vince and I were discussing a way to use a stable GPS to send error correction to the flying GPS. It turns out that it's been tried and there are complicated engineering reasons for why it doesn't work. If there was an easy way for someone...

    GPS Hold issues

I don't think low battery would do it. The bird will loose power to the motors well before the processors that run at 5V shut down. Below is a procedure I posted at mk.us to access the GPS unit on an MK. Maybe it will help you see what's happening. BTW, It works with the older firmware but I...

RC Ground vehicle to test FPV gear

I'm looking for an RC truck to test my FPV gear and antennas. (Yes... that is the excuse I'm using.) ;) I'd like to get something in the $200 or $300 range. I'm leaning towards a large crawler so it won't get stuck as easily and maybe even be able to carry a light quad on it's back. Any...

    GPS Hold issues

The GPS in consumer products is not that accurate. What accuracy do you expect? Feet? Meters? Reality is that it will be accurate to 15 feet either way most of the time. Below is an MK when sitting on a table. Maybe there's something else going on, but the first thing to check would be what...

    Multicoaxial

Gator? It does look heavy. Do you really need it to support your weight? Or lift a cam?

    Manufacturer Forums??

I think that when such a change is necessary you won't have to ask. There will be a critical mass that will cause you to create a new forum and move threads. The AR Drone forum comes to mind. ;)

    Upgrading the Mikrokopter Firmware

When flashing, I use a regulated power supply that is set to a low mA limit but I never use a battery. My reasoning is that a bad flash or bad configuration or bad firmware could cause the props to start. (Yes it's unlikely and not suppose to happen, but I like my fingers.) The settings should...

Is there a multicopters anonymous I can join?

Don't ask! Don't tell! When confronted, admit to nothing until your Attorney is present. If you are tortured then only 'admit' that you are repairing it and test flying it for some anonymous guy in South Jersey. Remember, always plan ahead. Plan purchases so they arrive on Friday and...

Don't forget the force feedback joystick controller and the magnetic head tracker. ;)

    Anti Vibration mount

One way: http://www.mikrokopter.de/ucwiki/en/VibrationTest The downside is that you need a Mikrokopter V1.3 FC or you will need to change some surface mount caps on the newer FCs. I actually surprised that somebody hasn't already made an arduino board that drives an ESC and measures RPM...

    Anti Vibration mount

Good question. I don't know. I've seen many different opinions on vibration isolation and I have yet to see one 'right' way to do it that works for everyone. In my opinion, the first step to reduce camera vibration is to balance the motors and props as perfectly as possible. I see a lot of...

    Anti Vibration mount

Some months ago I saw talk of using Tempurpedic mattress foam. I got as far as ordering a free sample but never tried it on a bird. http://www.tempurpedic.com/our-company/information-kit.asp

Hey Gregg, I see you got bit by the FPV bug. Have fun. It's a hell of a ride.:D Kirk PS. Multicopters, photography, FPV, and fat wallets don't mix.:p

    SnapQuad/KK build thread.

Thinks to check: Is the board's arrow pointing towards the front? Is the board programmed for X or + mode? Do you have the motors numbered correctly? I recall that some of the KK boards number their motors in a circular fashion and others use a criss-cross method. I had a similar problem...
