Bigger props, turned slower = better flight times. I prefer to think of 3S = "endurance", and 4S = "performance". Hardly scientific, but there you go. Re: heat etc - it's more a factor what props you're asking a motor to turn. An underpowered/undertorqued motor will heat up more trying to turn...

It's not the output voltage that changes - it's fixed at 12V. It's the output *amps* that change. I run 6S into it, so the output *amps* is 2A - a 4S setup will output 3A. No, I never worked out why bigger volts = less amps, but i'm sure someone who didn't fall asleep in high school physics...

Update to my own post: I chucked the martinez, and installed a v2 alexmos. And things improved considerably. There is still a tiny buzzy vibration, but it barely registers on the display, and bench performance of the nex5 is better (cleaner, sharper video). A bit more tuning to get rid of that...

Brushless motors tend to do ok in the rain/snow, as long as the cabling is water tight. Exposure to water may shorten bearing life, if the bearings aren't sealed. Any exposed circuit boards or traces will fail, as water is a conduit. Cover up all electronics, and make sure your wiring is clean...
