    regarding IMU

Yes I believe that is correct assuming your center of gravity is also at dead center.

    What do Gains actually do???

I assume you are talking about your MultiRotor gain controls.....To answer each of your questions more precisely. Gain adjustment has nothing to do with the RC transmitter. Your MR can fly in one of three modes: 1) fully autonomous 2) semi-autonomous 3) Manual. In all three modes there is one or...

    What do Gains actually do???

The hotlink here provides all the info you need: http://wiki.openpilot.org/display/Do...ng++Multirotor Gain is a crude term which represents a multiplier for a control loop within a PI or PID controller. In it's most fundemental form the output will be regulated as a Proportion of the desired...

Motor Swapout Data...very good info and very interesting...

Have you considered adding on the aluminum hex arm extenders or using the RCTimer 800 arms which are designed specifically for upgrading DJI 550? These enable larger prop diameters so that your motor prop combos and matching batteries stay in the right ballpark. In any case there is significant...

F-550 Naza + GPS Rapid Uncontrolled Ascent

Normal behaviour for the motors is to accelerate rapidly when your MR is tied down like that and the throttle is raised above 50%. Why? Because your throttle PI loop is anticipating an increase in altitude and when an increase it altitude does not occur, the PI requires the throttle to increase...

    F550 Radio Setup

If you search hard enough you can always find someone who provides compromised advice! But for 2 x 2200 mah batteries you could possibly get by with 16 awg at least for awhile.

    F550 Radio Setup

There are often tradeoffs but that item would be a reasonable compromise for your existing batteries. You might want to buy or build a larger gage one if you ever opt for larger motors and/or battery mah capacities however.

F-550 Naza + GPS Rapid Uncontrolled Ascent

The manual indicates that the maximum ascent rate while in Attitude or GPS mode is restricted to 6 meters per second..... if you perceive that it is climbing at a more rapid rate then you know that the Naza is not achieving GPS or Attitude mode but is operating in Manual mode. And in manual mode...

    F550 Radio Setup

Risky!! In addition to reduced flight time, undersized conductor can get hot which can drive up it's resistance leading to a thermal runaway condition, insulation breakdown and a dead short etc. etc. And that is not a good thing during a flight. Except for the undersized wire, you can still use...

F-550 Naza + GPS Rapid Uncontrolled Ascent

Just saw video now. What does the exp mean on the RC Transmitter screen (left side near throttle)?

F-550 Naza + GPS Rapid Uncontrolled Ascent

    1) Get it back to the bench and thoroughly prove all functions thru Naza Assistant and recalibrate. That program is a life saver for verifying your MR is responding to RC transmitter commands correctly without full on flight verification. And don't forget to complete the compass calibration etc...

    Air travel with copters.

We can still ship LiPos into Canada from USA but not from Hong Kong. These might fall under a hazmat category. I flew in to Canada from Arizona just after Christmas c/w one 4S - 5000 mah LiPo battery w/o realizing these batteries might be restricted. Battery was packed in stowed luggage. No...

    Low Gains

Stick to DJI recommendations for gains for your model of MR, e.g., F550. but also make allowances to remote fine tune Basic and Attitude gain while hovering. Follow this Youtube video for best method to achieve this while flying. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmDehc5PEUQ Wait for dead calm...

    Motor alignment tips and tricks

To get holes in perfect alignment on one side of the tube..... High power and Model rocketry enthusiasts have been using a simple angle iron or angle aluminum rail to do this for years now. I prefer the extra thin 90 deg angle aluminum rail to draw a straight line the length of a carbon fiber...

    Wooden lightweight crash resistant frame

As the majority of structural strength of plate material is dependent upon each surface tension and compression strength and there is no strength advantage coming for the center of the plate, it is nowcommon practice for companies such as Dragonplate to sell fiberglass and/or carbon fiber...

    Air travel with copters.

While one might expect these regulations to be similar between all airlines and countries such that e.g., one could return with the same batteries, some homework might be worthwhile. Return trip from a foreign country via the same airline should be least problematic. Here are the Canadian...

    S800 Landing Gear

Can anyone clarify if the conventional (not retractable) S800 landing gear has aluminum joint parts at the top of the CF landing gear? Seems from the photos I have looked at they DJI may have switched from original plastic or nylon joint parts to stronger but heavier aluminum parts. Also RC...

    RC Timer S800 clone

I have the RCT800 hex arms which I am happy with with respect to price but these must not be confused with the S800 hex arms as the slots for the DJI landing gear will not match. Also..... Take a close look at the top of the RCTimer S800 package landing gear. If I see it all correctly, the DJI...

    Need a battery guru

More inut info is needed to answer that question, e.g., prop dia and pitch and MR+Payload weight. Once you have all the peripheral data entered into ECalc such that you get a realistic answer to one scenario .... just make some adjustments for the 5000 versus the 6000 maH batteries and compare...

    Ground Station: VPN Mode

I seem to recall VPN mentioned but can't find it now...... Seems that the "find" function in Acrobat reader does not work with the DJI GCS manual..... or did you read VPN somewhere else?
