FPV setup, Do these components make sense ?

It sounds like there is a problem with your system. Im using 5.8 GHz and two homemade cloverleafs. My TX is only 200 mw and Im easily getting 600 meters plus without using a patch. How high above your copter do you mount the antenna. There should be reasonable space (50mm or so) otherwise...

FPV setup, Do these components make sense ?

Hi Boris First of all, both antennas are receiving antennas so I presume you plan to use them with the Eagle Eyes diversity receiver. The problem is they are both different types of antenna style designed to pick up different polarity signals. The 8dBi patch is a fixed vertical polarised...

    DJI f450 and DX6i

Hi Cappy Further to my earlier PM on the DX6i, I'm using an Orange Rx from Hobby King. I use them on all my models (EDFs, warbirds and gliders) and never had a glitch or range issue (so far). I'm about to add a satellite receiver for added insurance at longer ranges during FPV flights and Im...

Is the F450 the new go to?

I was already flying a home built Tricopter (based on rcexploere.se) with a KK board and was looking to buy a new self levelling controller to use on it. I had been trying to get a CC board for months and when they released a batch last December, I was overseas and wasn't able to place the order...

Need help with Tricopter setup with KK board

Hi CasualChaos Not sure how you went on this as you havent responded. However Ive just replaced the motors on my home built Tricopter with new more powerful ones and I've had to revisit the throttle calibration again. On the KK board you need to; 1. Power OFF the controller board and your...

Show me your power distribution method - I need to find a new way...

Plugs add resistance and create heat at high current draws so unless you're planning on changing ESCs in the field I'd avoid using plugs on the ESCs. Turnigy Plush ESCs are pretty reliable so unless you're pushing them hard, failures should be rare. Additionally JSTs are OK for the small...

    DJI F450 Build

Are you using the Combination Stick Command (CSC) to activate the motors? They wont start automatically just by increasing the throttle. Slide both Throttle and Pitch sticks fully down and to the left and the motors should fire up. You then have a few seconds to increase the throttle or they...

the one that nearly got away !

I'm using Corona RX's with a DX6i on my F450 and on my Tricopter and having no range problems at all. In fact I now use Corona RX's exclusively in everything I fly including EDF's and gliders and never had an issue or a glitch. Now that I'm flying more FPV I'm about to add a Corona satellite RX...

    Naza loops and rolls.

Thanks kloner. Chris is in Aus so I'll see if he has a local source first. If not then I'll gladly take you up on it.

    Naza loops and rolls.

Unfortunately they wont ship to Australia (might be a licensing thing). Is there anyone in the USA who can buy me some and post them to me here? I can paypal the cost including shipping in advance. I cant seem to find any over here. Chris - Where did you get yours from?

    Naza loops and rolls.

Nice flying Chris. I managed to get one FPV flight in today but still in ptactice mode so staying away from water and people at the moment. I originally flew the standard F450 with the original 8x4.5 props on 3S 2200s and quite liked it. After I added the GopPro and FPV I changed to the...

Anyone in USA / California want to start a war with me?

Just move out of the city and buy a farm. Plenty of acres to fly about at your own leisure :tennis:

    what does this?

I'm using a short length of fiberglass rod (like you'd find at the tip of a fishing rod) and I've cable-tied the antenna cable to it. The rod pushes into a small socket I've fitted to the f450 arm so I can remove it for transportation.

    HobbyKing Multi-Rotor Control Board V3.0 (Atmega328 PA)

It shouldnt matter if its a quad or a tricopter, they fly much the same. Its the controller that makes it stable. Put the same KK board on a Quad and it will fly much the same as the tricopter (although the longer arms of the tricopter slow down the response making it a little easier to fly)...

    900MHZ 1500mW Camera Troubles

Check the wiring colour coding. They have been known to vary from batch to batch. I have one of these and it works fine although I'm not using it at the moment. I think there are some threads on RCGroups that discuss it.

    HobbyKing Multi-Rotor Control Board V3.0 (Atmega328 PA)

The KK board won't self level. It's a 3 gyro controller board that provides motor control and basic stabilization but you'll need to helicopter flying skills to fly it. It's quite stable though like a large helicopter because of the length of the arms. I added the FY-20 to reduce the load when...

    HobbyKing Multi-Rotor Control Board V3.0 (Atmega328 PA)

Hi Ross. The mechanics of mine were based on the tricopter built by David Windestål at http://rcexplorer.se/. My build used Hobby King parts. The motors were 2213N 800Kv Brushless, ESCs were Turnigy Plush 18 Amp, Props were GWS 9x5 (2 standard and 1 counter rotating) and I used the BMS-385DMAX...

    HobbyKing Multi-Rotor Control Board V3.0 (Atmega328 PA)

I use KK Tri v1.6 in my Tricopter. Seems to work very well. My controller is a KK plus 5.5e from multircshop but the Hobby King board takes the same firmware.

    what does this?

You'll get a bit less interference around obstacles at 900 MHz and you'll probably get slightly more range as well but your cloverleaf will be much larger (about 5 inches across). The higher you go in frequency the more effect obstacles will have on the reception. At 5.8 GHz the signal is like...
