    Sony QX1

Hey Gang, I was wondering if anyone out there is using a Sony QX 1 camera. I see a lot of great potential with this unit. It is tiny and very light weight, takes the Sony E-Mount lenses and has the same sensor as the newer NEX and RX100 cameras (20.1mp). The only thing I can't figure out is how...

    Sony a6000?

The A6000 comes from a long line of cameras that have been used in aerial applications for a number of years, the NEX line. I have been using an NEX 5 for a few years and more recently upgraded to the A6000. It's a great camera for the need and I'm sure you will love it. The larger sensor of the...

Need Help 1880 Train Station Scan

This is a problem I see often, but just as they outlined, it's very easy to fix. Just hit the rotate object tool and adjust it (usually a perfect 180 on the a axis) till its correct. My train model was upside down at first and I finally fixed it in PS before re uploading it. If you need a point...

Need Help 1880 Train Station Scan

This was processed with the Pro version, but the engine that makes the model itself is the same. The basic version is just missing some of the geo-referencing stuff, which you don't need unless you lay this over another map. I would think that the problem may have some from something else in...

    Central Florida 2015 FPV Meet

I was really looking forward to attending this, but I now have two different events booked on the 27th & 28th. Maybe next year!

Need Help 1880 Train Station Scan

We are using Photoscan by Agisoft right now, but are starting to test a variety of other solutions including a few cloud based options. The flight itself is the fastest part. I think I did this one in 2 batteries, and even that was a little overkill. Total it was about 400 photos, but I think I...

Need Help 1880 Train Station Scan

My wife and I were visiting relatives over the holidays and saw this train station from the 1880's being moved from it's original location. Of course, I had to pull over and capture a model of it. I grew up walking by this everyday on our way to school, so I really wanted to document it. We just...

DJI to limit flights over DC and US Borders

I agree with you, the only thing I find troubling is that the firmware update will be mandatory. I think most of us here agree that DJI hasn't always released the most stable firmware, so to be forced to update is a little crazy. What happens when a forced update has bugs? I've always waited...

DJI to limit flights over DC and US Borders

What about their line of flight controllers? Will this same "feature" come to the A2 & Wookong? To bad this wouldn't have stopped the White House incident, that was a Phantom 1 which doesn't seem to be getting the same update.

"Drone" found on White House lawn

Turns out he was even a government employee. New York Times is reporting it now. http://nyti.ms/1CY9jCc

    RIP Macsgrafs/Ross McKinnon

Very True. I chatted with him on a variety of topics including government conspiracies, aliens and the art of nude photography. One thing is for sure, Ross was a man that swam upstream against all currents and didn't care what others thought about him doing so. That is what I appreciated about...

    RIP Macsgrafs/Ross McKinnon

It is with a heavy heart that I post about one of the original members of our forum passing way, Ross McKinnon, who went by the screen name Macsgrafs. Ross was a vibrant soul that I was luckily enough to get to know outside of MRF as we shared lots of common interests. Looking at his MRF...

RC Rotors and Aerial Media- Still Innovating!

I'm lucky enough to have RC Rotors in my own backyard and I can tell you, they build some serious machines! I've worked with several of their aircraft on a few different jobs and have always been impressed with the quality.

    Drone Deploy

I just found this video demo of the Drone Deploy software as well as some decent documentation on their product, "CoPilot." http://dronedeploy-faq.readme.io/v1.0/docs/initial-setup

    Dronemapper.com

Has anyone used Dronemapper.com yet for processing their orthos? We typically do our processing in house, but are looking for some good cloud based solutions so we don't have to manage a bunch of hardware ourselves (processing is very cpu/ram intensive). Their prices seem reasonable, but I...

    Drone Deploy

When it comes to aerial mapping, there seem to be no shortage on tech companies jumping into the market lately. It really makes sense when you think about it. Mapping, for the most part, is nothing more than a process where you collect large amounts of data (images/NDVI), and tech companies have...

    Aerial Mapping, New Forum Area!

Good job, Bart! I've got a few good topics I'll post when I get home later.

Very Interesting! Linux/APM flight control system!

This is very interesting. I've been playing around with a Raspberry Pi linked up with a Pixhawk via a serial connection. It uses MAVLink protocol to send commands back and forth. This is much more straightforward though. Nice find!

    Hey from Chicago

I would love that, @Bartman. Perhaps just calling Aerial Mapping would be best since there are so many different things that make up mapping. If you put that up, I'd be willing to write a bunch of initial posts to get the ball rolling. There are a ton of cool things happening in that space right...

    Hey from Chicago

Hello @mabillionaire . Welcome to MRF. From what you have described above, you want to look into photogrammetry as your first step. The concept is simple enough... photograph your subject from every possible perspective and feed that dataset into one of a number of different programs that will...
