Transitioning from DJI to 3DR - Learning Curve?

The Pixhawk is a flight controller, the Iris is a quadcopter (that comes with a Pixhawk installed). The Pixhawk is recommended over the older APM2.6 for sure. I cannot recommend the Iris however. As for learning curve... there's a lot to learn, especially if you want to use the advanced...

Pixhawk the new flight controller from 3DR

Should work totally fine. You guys have seen my videos right? Here's one of my latest, done with SRH. The gimbal isn't tuned perfectly, but the heli flight is very smooth as I hope you can see. The gimbal was operated by some guy in my club I just handed him the controller he'd never done it...

PID tuning / dramatic braking maneuver

This is probably your Rate tuning. What have you got for the Rate PID's? And Imax.

How does this keep happening... what can we do about it?

So what is the deleted video about? Just more of London, or something else?

    AIBotix Wow

So you guys are saying that, you don't get what you pay for? :)

    Why are retracts so expensive?

Because high-end multirotor stuff is the golden goose of the hobby industry. ;)

    Need long flight times

Ferdinand, thanks for posting! You are the man. I was trying to remember your name because I know you had a quad that's flown a long ways too. I've never seen that X8 with the camera before. That's simply amazing performance. I've never seen anything like that, or even close. Proof of what...

Changing the RX on the APM 2.5

Yep, that's it. I've never actually used the wizard myself. I should try it sometime. :) I do most of it manually.

    Need long flight times

Hey, 60km starts to be a big deal. So I will love to see it when you do it. 25 minute at 60 km/h is pretty good, you're right, I shouldn't have dismissed that. My 500 heli does 20 minutes with an SX260 on board.

Power distribution board vs power harness

Thanks. And only 5 dolla! Believe it or not, I made the acrylic washers, just cut them with a hole saw... The wiring layout of that entire machine was really nice. I designed it from the ground up as a complete system right from the start. The Talon arm and motor mounts really suck though...

    Need long flight times

Without reading the entire thread... http://fpvlab.com/forums/showthread.php?26271-AerialMob-Arm-Extensions&p=492082&viewfull=1#post492082 This seems like not a big deal at all. He's flying for about 25 minutes at 60-70 km/h. There's another guy that's gone much further than that. I think...

    Need long flight times

Hmmm... hard to glean much info from that thread. Yes, Panasonic 18650B LiPo's are the standard for long duration flight.

Power distribution board vs power harness

I'll have to dig around, I'm not sure. It's really simple, and looks very similar to these other ones. Yes, I just used a couple of fiberglass washers to insulate it. Also available from McMaster. And then a 1/4" nylon bolt to hold it all together. Ah, here's a picture: I soldered the...

Power distribution board vs power harness

You can make the ultimate PDB for just a couple bucks using a couple of large solid copper washers available from McMaster. That's hilarious, where is that? Some people will buy anything.

    Need long flight times

Any links to those machines? I'd love to see what they've done. 53 minutes with a payload is pretty amazing. What I'm talking about are things like this: Somehow that guy managed to claim an official world record at 1 hours 20 minutes. Those motor mounts are actually glued and...

Changing the RX on the APM 2.5

You can *probably* get away with just change it and go. But I would suggest at least doing the radio calibration screen just in case. The Tx is the one that sets the PWM values, the Rx just listens. But there may be very minor timing differences on the outputs of the Tx circuitry. So best to...

DC or AC generator for lipos

That could be a lot of things. If your DC rectifier is really simple, then it's just a simple AC/AC step-down transformer, into a rectifier bridge. So the voltage coming out is dependent on the voltage coming in. If the line voltage in your house is 120V, and the generator is putting out...

    Need long flight times

Hover throttle does not tell you what the disk loading is. Hover throttle tells you if your motors are too powerful. I have a quad that hovers at 30%, and it definitely does not toiletbowl. It's a heavy F450, with 10" props. Nothing unusual about that. But it has monster motors on it capable...

    Need long flight times

That's a good question, I don't know the answer. I've seen a 35 minute quad fly quite well in a reasonable wind. I was really surprised. But you'll notice that the 1+ hour quads, you'll never see them fly unless it's dead calm. Well, part of the reason is because the structure is so light...
