2014 - best ESC at the moment?

Since the Turnigy Multistar 45A OPT Escs were developed to handle the Turnigy Multistar 22 pole pancake style motors and I have extensive successful flying experience with that combination..... I feel confident that these will work out just fine. All bench testing including rapid motor accel and...

2014 - best ESC at the moment?

My Tiger-Motor MN4012 - 400KV motors arrived and I am now testing them with my hobby bench testing tools, 6S battery and 45 amp Turnigy Multistar OPT ESCs. All works fine on the bench so far. But my big question is: As these are essentially high pole count pancake style motors and there have...

Who adds capacitors to their power train

There is very little difference between the Hobby level ESC and the Industrial level VFD = Variable Frequency Drive. The only differences are: 1) Size and 2) the VFD has a built-in full wave rectifier on the front end to convert 3 phase AC input to the required DC voltage/current that is...

Just when you thought it was safe.

There are a lot of individuals being asked by running clubs to do aerial video work to promote their running clubs. The participants, organizers and public love it. I see many using the Phantom for that. A small and light Phantom presents enough risk let alone anything heavier...... Hovering...

Payload as a % of AUW

R_Lefebre, A very valid point requiring use of eCalc for Multirotors to stay ahead of the game.

    Battery Question...

This is what I do.... I buy 35C rated batteries....... and run them in parallel. Much higher and your total flight time can drop due to the extra weight. Lower increases risks of brownouts etc. eCalc will generally indicate similar results subject to the total payload weight etc.

what is your preferred mixer type for flat octo?

IMHO - The "V" is slightly better for aerial video over the "I"... but more so for the Hex and much more so for the Quad.... all other things being equal. Longer motor arms will provide smoother flight control provided the motors/props are sized correctly and the MR gains are set correctly.

HobbyKing Orders denied entry into USA?

I never experienced any of those issues in order 100 orders to date out of Asia from any of the businesses including HobbyKing, RCTimer, Famous Hobbies and AliExpress! It is very easy at the time of order placement to accidently select items from one of the many HobbyKing warehouses located on...

Unable to write and configuration to F550

I sold my F550 some time ago and have lost track with the config since moving up to the WKM and A2 since. If your RC system has 8 or more channels, it should be possible to configure your RC radio system to work with the NAZA. Keep in mind that the Bluetooth LED module adds some additional...

single-pilot A2 with MoVI and Futaba?

Sbus data register mapping needs to be better coordinated between manufacturers. Futaba likely works in line with IEEE specs/guidelines but not all sbus users are following the same standard and/or are paving new roads.

    A2 connected to 8-12s 70A-HV ESC

A dedicated battery for the control system eliminates the risk of a brownout caused by a shorted motor winding etc. As an Electrical Engineer in the Oil and Gas industry i cannot stamp and sign electrical drawings that do it any other way for reasons of safety etc. One can even feed the...

Who adds capacitors to their power train

That might help to explain why Quadrocopter USA is selling a $700 PDB/ESC package for the Cinestar 8 ARF kits! A close look reveals some small caps mounted on the PDB! But first of all, can you provide a source for your original statement re: 20cm restriction so i can investigate further.

what is your preferred mixer type for flat octo?

The original Cinestar 8 three leg landing gear/camera gimbal system was designed to work with the MR in the "I" configuration for some reason and would not mount to the MR correctly in the "V" configuration. But now with the newer 3 axis BGC systems you can configure the MR to allow straight...

2014 - best ESC at the moment?

Theres been a posting or 2 on Freefly forum re: the need for a Hercules III power board to help resolve issues related to high pole count motor incompatibility with ESCs but i don't understand how that has anything to do with these issues!

3 Axis stabilization inside the camera

Just thinking of the potential weight savings if the BGC 3 axis image stabilization concept was built electronically in to the camera and how much that would improve MR airtime.... In any case the new Olympus OM-D claims to have internal, electronic 3 axis image stabilization... ref: page...

How do I increase my lift on a Flamewheel 450

Sooner or later your new motors will need bigger props. Which in turn requires longer motor arms. But because the motor arm extenders were heavy, I chose to go with this alternate $60 Hex with 80mm polymide arms. You can either remove two arms to make a Quad, move four arms from the Hex onto the...

XAircraft OSD + FPV Wiring Question

How fortunate.... Not all new OSDs will interface with all FPV cameras. Just one example DJI developed an SAO for their iOSD so as to retain some backward compatibility with some of the older tech FPV cameras. Step 1 is to ensure the hardware handshaking is correct between the two devices...

GoPro3 USB able to Video downlink xmitter

I am considering building my own USB cable to connect to my DJI 5.8 Ghz video downlink xmitter. I had one but sold it with my MR recently. It is dead simple when working from a pinout diagram as there are only 4 or 5 pins in a USB connector and two are dedicated to 5 VDC power. Can anyone here...
