Anyone come up with a less clunky approach to connecting power to the YS-X6? In order to power up the FC before the ESC's requires a "Y" cable or similar This can add a lot of junk on top of one of the steadi gimbals. I am finishing up my build of the Ecilop with the YS-X6 and only have power to complete. But was looking for a more elegant approach - considered a 3 position switch but just another piece of equipment to go wrong! Anyone come up with anything? Here is a few pix of what I am talking about:

I Think I have a. Solution that will work. I'll dedicate a battery to this fc and just modify the connector by adding the fc and wifii leads. Simple. Can't believe it took me so long to realize it!!!!

Hi Stranger, How's it going?? just love those Reference holes in the ruler, John.

Actually, I am not that smart to come up with something like that....they are for a 3-ring binder! Getting close on the quad. Looking forward to seeing if the IMU works with this frame/gimbal. They recommend using separate gyros for roll and pitch but don't see that should be an issue. After doing this build, I wold say each frame has its distinctions. The gimbal approach is slightly different on each one. The build on this one was much less confusing - though I think, like I always seem to do, I probably did each step at least twice because I screwed something up each time!!! Live and RE Learn!

jim by looking at the pics there seems to seems to have been a bit of copying done ,have you fired up the gear after the prang and things seem to be alright ? John.

Yes, I installed the flight controller on an old quad I had sitting around. Everything appeared to work okay - though the battery may have bit the dust. You get airborne yet?????

I am using a Futaba T8FG that I picked up on Ebay New for around $200 along with a $34 FrSky TFR8SB receiver - both of which work great. Futaba also offers a FW upgrade at no cost turning the receiver into a 16 channel one. I have read that the $50 Turnigy 9 Channel receiver is a super buy. I can't remember the reason I went with Futaba though - this is my second Futaba and I like them.

Did you have video rolling when the quad did the tilt? Did it seem like power loss, mechanical issues or the flight controller? I have had similar issues with other FCs but haven't experienced it (yet) with this one - of course, I only have 10 minutes using it so far!

Jim, yes I was aware of your 8FG I was wondering about the RX that you got from Hobby King its less than half the price of the Futaba RX I was just wondering if there were any issues with it, No I didnt have a camera rolling I have loaned my Tripod to a mate and he has gone on Holidays for a few weeks, I have seen the Turnigy they also have a copy of the spectrum in a orange transparent case which is suppose to be pretty good also. are you nearly ready to go flying again?

Just have to finish up the battery power cable (waiting for a couple of connectors and silicone wire). Then give this thing a shot. I have been using the FYSKY RX for over a year (though, the S Bus version only since I bought the YS-X6) with no glitches at all. I have been able to find a dealer for the RX here in the US so I don't need to order from Hobby King and wait 3-4 weeks for it to arrive. As for your issue......you might want to try a tie down test (be sure to keep it tight enough so it cannot tip over) and see if you can re-create the problem. I do know that this flight controller does NOT like to sit very long without at least 50% power. If you remember, my #4 motor kept stopping when I did a tie down test. When I went to fly it worked okay. Leap of faith though. I just goosed it quickly into the air and hovered. Of course 10 minutes later it was in pieces!!!! But, as far as I know, all the motors stopped at the same time:)

Finally got all my parts and have begun setting up the YS-X6. I loaded the new firmware (20130207) and GCS. When I try to align the gimbal two things happen. First, I don't get the (new) "confirm" message on the GCS - NOT the "alignment successful" message that has always been there, but Zero had added a alignment starting confirmation message on the last GCS upgrade. I am not getting that message and it doesn't appear that any alignment is going on. I can't get anything to work on that option. Secondly, I am getting a pitch oscillation that I can't stop (see this link - http://youtu.be/cCZ_MBI-ZCE I get NO changes no matter where I set pitch parameters. On the Steadi470, I had it set to 80 roll and 20 pitch. Seemed to work okay. But now, nothing effects the sensitivity. It is as if the alignment procedure is not working. Anyone try the latest versions? Perhaps I should go back to previous version?

Hey everyone.
I have started installing a full-blown 150 waypoint YS-X6 into an Octo I'm building.
I have been reading through this thread and figuring this thing out. (The manual SUCKS!)
I'm a HoverFly Pro guy, and I'm doing a review of the YS-X6 for RCG, so this FC platform is new to me.

Anyways, I have it pretty well figured on the instal, except I can not figure out what this one plug is for.

I have two data link modules, and the wifi link module. The one Data link module is mounted on the rig and the cable that powers it has another lead that seems be for the purpose of bringing power the main FC module. The wifi module and other Data link module for the ground station have their own power cable as well. Which leaves me this one seen in the pic.

Does anyone know what it is for? It has a PCM board on it. And power in and power out leads and 1 male servo connector.
I'm stumped!

Hi there yes we all agree about the Manual or lack of your unknown device looks like the Power Management Module which sits between your Battery and your existing battery cable. Not quite sure where the small lead with rx type plug whether it replaces the main power to the FC. There a a couple of block diagrams that show where it plugs into, it gives the Gcs feedback on consumption etc.
Interesting frame which one is it? Hope that was some help...John.

Ahh ok. So I think I'll maybe try to use the servo lead coming out of this to power the FC. perhaps there is a filter on the PCB board.

The frame is just a Rusty's UAP2 Octo frame. It's really pretty nice for the price. It's got 21.5mm arms, and the boom mounting blocks are very nice.

Jim what are your settings currently I had similiar in the Steadi and it was set at 40,50 I am sitting now at 20,20 but I must admit I didnt have that amount of swing that you have got Your having a bad run all round, John.

OK. so I'll put that module FIRST, and then pigtail that to the other power lead that powers the data link. And to also confirm, I should use the lead coming off the power management module to power the main FC module correct?

Howdy John, It really appears that when I change the values on the GCS and I "send" (then "get" to confirm) that it isn't working - even though the new value shows up. I am also getting another weird thing happening when I set declination - I put in 15 and when I get data to confirm entry, it shows -6 !! This is something that I had happen way back when but finally got it to work - now however, it does not take. Do you get a series of messages confirming the alignment process other than the "successful" message? Maybe I need to go back to previous firmware.......?

Hi Jim, no I don't get those messages maybe your right and go back to the previous version firmware, but I never had a problem with declination whatever what was put in stayed that way sounds a bit strange. John.

hi, if you have a copy of the quick start guide or download it it shows a block diagram of where it sits the pigtail goes to A1 on the FC .john.

Is that the thing that says "power calculation" ? HAHA if so that is pretty funny!
That chart is a little confusing as the red power lead does a loop instead of pig tailing.
But I think I got it now.

I didn't want to mess up the power, usually you only get one chance to mess that up.

I haven't got one of the modules so I haven't seen any different instructions apart from the quick start guide I guess it's a standard part of the full version good luck with it anyway.john.
