What FC

Folks, I have been doing a boat load of reading on flight controls. So many opinions, good and bad experiences on every brand. The research is making me dizzy. Some say A2 is awesome. Others say it's plagued with problems and that Wookong is the best Dji choice. I'm also looking at xaircraft. Then I went through 77 pages of posts on superx and there are supporters and haters. Some are saying aftermarket support sucks. I'm lost guys.
I just want something reliable, stable and easy to set up for my medium lift hex.
1000mm hex with 10kg weight for a GH-4. I'm using kde 4015-380 and 55 amp esc.

Any help is appreciated. Thx

to what degree do you rely on FC assistance to fly? need waypoints? GPS related safety features?

do you build your own equipment or buy RTF?

I'm building my own. My first build. I absolutely want GPS/atti/rth That's where most of my flying will be. Waypoints are cool. Don't know that I need them on this bigger machine but having the option is better than not.

Wouldn't 6S be a problem with Pixhawk?

I was going to suggest Mikrokopter but you've got to know you want Mikrokopter going into it. You can't go halfway into it and then decide you want out, the speed controllers are MK specific and expensive, the hardware is unique in ways but it works beautifully and is very reliable once you survive the first power-up! Loads of features that have been stable components of the system for years.

.

If connected direct, yes it would be, but to connect via a step down BEC makes that a non issue. There's just too much versatility available with Pixhawk to view stepping down FC input voltage to be a problem. You also have virtually unlimited flexibility in PID adjustments, rate of climb, loiter acceleration, rate of descent, multiple failsafes, and log files you can actually make determinations from yourself. The downside; it's not stupid simple to set up.

I hate to say it guys but I'm leaning towards xaircraft. The way I look at it, if it does not meet my expectations I will dump it for a $100 loss. No big deal. There is some great testimonials out there and a couple bad ones but all brands have that.

If you want "stupid simple", why not look towards Naza or Wkm?

Sent by my thumb, a trusty slave to my crazy mind. The above is the ramblings of a lunatic, and should be treated as such. Terms and conditions apply.

Superx looks pretty simple. I am sparing no expense on this build but I need to ask myself if the wkm is twice as good because it costs twice as much. If it's 10% better I would still buy it but I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that.

The X-Aircraft is a pretty good controller. More or less the same as the Wookong IMO and well worth putting to work. If you don't need lots way points for autonomous flight and multiple other things beyond a basic controller it's a good investment, plus you generally have reasonably good customer support.

The only thing that steered me away from one awhile back was a conversation with a distributor where he was not certain the controller would work well with a low kV motor, large propeller machine. Do some direct inquiries before making the jump.

I've been super happy with SuperX... we have 3 of them going now.... the only problems i've seen on here i don't understand with them is x8 doesn't seem to do well on it.

we use it on u7 490kv with 18" prop hex, u7 490kv 17" prop octo and 3520 400kv 15" prop and 3510 400kv 12" prop quad

Steve. I've been reading a thread on the xaircraft forum about heavier lifters to which you have contributed. It seems many of the guys are having trouble settling the craft down. They cannot dial the gains in perfectly. You are having great success on your hexacrafter which will not be that different from what I'm building. Let's hope I have the same results.

That is one of the better easier controllers i've used. Only thing i'm dying to check out if it ever comes out of vapor ware is synapse from freefly. I've never had or seen anything happen on the forums that didn't make since except that dam x8 bit which sucks cause i was wanting to build one out. When your heli is right, has plenty of Thrust to weight, parts are all working like they should, to tune the gains is super easy to see and read, flies super smooth..... maybe my only gripe is i often use gps mode to do big climb outs like a crane move, and it generally holds within inches, however it is so smooth to correct if you fly up out of a wind protected area into one that's not, i get drift and it'll take me a couple extra takes to get the shot smoother doing gps mode but with input to correct for the deviation then gotta put it back, sometimes i gotta go to atti and do it manual but it always has some sort of drift when i do. My a2 used to blow though all that crap but made shakier footage doing it.
