What do you do?

A lot of technical jobs here! As for me well I'm a 22 year old student but I have just finished University. Graduation is only a phew weeks away but literally yesterday I found out I received a first class honours in my degree (BSc, Multimedia Technology & Design with professional development). I'll probably end up being a web designer/ front-end developer as I have some experience from a company in London, but who knows where life will take me!

If I could describe myself I would say a large part of me is a perfectionist. I guess it’s an advantage and my own downfall at times. To give you an example, I have been working on my FPV quad for well over a year now and I still have stuff to do. I also love to make things and think I naturally orientate around anything that’s technical as well as creative. I have been into RC for 5 years and now FPV has taken my lead interest. I'm fascinated with pretty much anything that fly’s. For me building and modifying my quad is just as fun as flying.

I am 29, I am a 2nd class operator for an oil pipeline company that operates in Canada and the US. I have 10 years of carpentry under my belt and have always loved rc.... Building stuff, taking it apart and seeing what makes it tick! I have always had an interest in flying rc's but could never afford it as 5 years ago i was a little "out of it" lol. Anyway's Helis lead me to multis which I then fell in love with the idea of Photography from the air as i like taking pics on any given day. Busted out the wallet and here i am ! Now im balancing the hobby with paying for my wedding.... Damn wedding haha

Love this forum and this group/hobby.
My son loves it aswell, He is 3 so im sure in a couple more years ill be helping him build some eflite rig haha

Not many posts here but I thought I'd introduce myself. I work in a busy private practice as owner Optometrist for a major UK based Multiple, although my practice is in Australia. I have been intro RC since age 7 when I had a little gas engine control line thingy, it made me sick. I have been buying a trying and learning to fly Multirotors for 3 years now, its a big job learning all the stuff involved and I only just about think I understand it somewhat now. I have been flying full size GA aircraft since 17 when I signed up for a short career in the RAF. I still fly when cash permits but Cirrus SR22 is AUS is 500 bucks an hour !!! makes a new WKM FC seem cheap...

My main passion for the last 12 years has been skydiving and base jumping. My passion for photography has been growing since strapping a canon 20D and sigma wide angle zoom to my head in 2004. ( sore neck ) I now use a nex5N modded with electronic shutter release by gethypoxic.com for skydiving purposes. Video is now a mixture of gopro 2 's , Sony CX110 and soon to be PJ -710 V BOSS Sony camera. All these fit onto a camera helmet. My main goal over the next few months is to mix my passion for Multirotors and BAse jumping. I intend to take my newly purchased S800 Z15 combo to Europe and film my friends jumping off 1400 M high walls. Should be fun..Below are some pics , first one is me recently in my new Vampire 3 Red suit.. learning to fly it before taking it off the cliffs.. the next are all shots I took between 2004 and 2006 using my head mounted Canon 20D.

Question for YakJock : DO you know anything about the new Presbyopia correction techniques using the lasers ? They are experimenting down here a little but I am reluctant to refer patients for such a new procedure ( sorry off topic )

Hey jet boots the base jumping is very cool I have done a few hrs in a wind tunnel doing simulated free fall which is a shed load of fun. As for your question if you are asking about Femto phaco treatments I don't have any clinical knowledge as I am on the technical side & work with the corneal reshaping lasers. But if you pm me I will pass on your details to a friend in the clinical team who can help with any question you might have.

"I have also been a weapons engineer in the Royal Navy"

I was a WAFU Not sure why they called us that, never did find out what it stood for!!:)
I was Aircraft: Weapons & Electrical.

I'm not sure WAFU is an official acronym but it stands for Wet And Fu**ing Useless to most people. I was a WEM(O) weapons engineer ordinance. Sorry to break it to you like that on here but you did ask. :)

Hi everyone, I was in law enforcement (British Bobby) for 30 years and retired 17 years ago in July (blimey, that's a long time when I think about it.)
Been in to RC helis for 2 years now and moved to quads a few months ago. Still getting to grips with all that's out there but reading all the topics on this Forum is helping alot.

"I'm London based now, UK people probably knows the serie of commericals Compare The Market, with the funny animals talking a with a strange accent,
there is a bit of my job in :D
"

Anaka, these commercials are absolutely brilliant. Whoever thought of the concept deserves a mega prize. They really caught on and so easy "SIMPLES". I wish I could find an example for everyone to watch. If you can find a link somewhere please post it. I even got the Meerkatt book for Christmas. Please tell me it was your idea and I can worship you for evermore.

I own a forensic animation company. We re-create aviation, railroad, trucking and other transportation disasters for attorneys, engineers and insurance companies. We acquire aerial plates and footage that we then use as the basis for a 3D animated reconstruction of the event. Our finished work is used in litigation, mediation and settlement conferences. Currently I am reconstructing the POV of a Seahawk helicopter that struck transmission wires at 180 feet above ground level. Although we used a full-scale heli to shoot aerial at the scene, the MR allows us to shoot footage that would be impossible to get with the big bird.

Hi,

I am an electrical engineer specialising in control software for industrial control systems ( I have been doing this for 22 years now!)
I mainly program Allen Bradley / Rockwell PLC systems (plus a few other makes) for various applications with the companies major interest in the UK water industry. But I have worked on a multitude of different industries from oil and gas to rock processing machines and generator control systems. The company I work for build control panels and motor control centres, we have a sheet metal, paint finishing and wiring assembly shops.

I started flying RC when I was 15 (Now 42) and a lot has changed in the last few years. I have flown many different types of models over the years, but really enjoy electric powered sail planes and warm liners. Plus the odd foamie and flying wing. I have flow IC helicopters in the past but like the concept and applications of the quads for filming and possibly some FPV.

Thanks

Mark

I'm a retired Air Force pilot & computer systems manager who does landscape photography as a hobby & part-time business. I started doing aerial photography from an R/C plane about 6 years ago. Four years ago I lost the sight in my right eye due to a freak accident. With no depth perception, flying R/C planes became risky & too much of a challenge. I discovered multirotors about 8 months ago, and found their inherent stability and ease of hovering enabled me to once again one of my favorite hobbies.

I own a Exective Protection firm (Body-guarding) here in the United States. We employ about 400 people worldwide basically babysitting for grown adults. I also fly a Bell 407 on a daily basis. I also am big into cross country motorcycle riding. I own a BMW K1200LT and a few other bikes. I recently got into attempting to fly quads after seeing one on a movie set and looking to blow off some job related stress. I thought hell if I can fly the real thing this would be easy. I was way wrong about that! My goal is to take my quad on some of my motorcycle trips and do some filming. Taking still pictures from the side of the road is boring, but taking video and pictures from a quad of the surrounding areas we visit would be so cool. Think about it, close up videos of Mount Rushmore, flying over a herd of elk in Yellowstone, just to name a few.
