Unstable F550 just likes to flop around.

I have a DJI F550 just itching to fly but keeps flopping over. The f550 oriented in X6 is controlled by a naza with tiger motors powered by a 3S 3200 mah battery. Futaba 8fg super tx and futaba r6208 rx.

I am able to get the motors started both in atti and manual modes. But when throttling up, the F550 gets very unstable and flips even in atti (indicated by slow yellow flashes). I have triple checked the balanced props spin the right direction (i.e., motor 1 is counter clockwise and motor 2 clock wise). Under low throttle, I am able to control pitch, roll and yaw. I suspect I have an auto pilot and/or trim issue but just plain stumped.

Any suggestions or thoughts where I may going wrong on getting a smooth flight?

Thanks for any help. I am stumped and getting tired of shattering props. : )

Double the direction of the Naza Motor inputs go forward or to the front of the of the hexa. Also double check the the prop are the correct direction and the motors are turning the right direction as well. Default gains are to low for the hexa the basic gain needs to be higher for the hexa.

Michael, it really sounds like you have something plugged in wrong.

Looking at the hexa, from the top and behind, #1 motor will be the front right, #2 the front left.

Make sure that your esc's for these motors are plugged into the correct port.

Interresting! I did not know that.

I don't own a Naza, yet. However, my WKM took off with my XA Hexa, in high wind just fine at default gains.

Live and learn.

I had the same thing happening with my F550 and gaza... turned out I had the M1-6 slightly wrong. I would unplug them and plug them back in 1-6 correctly just to be sure. Solved my problem and it was exactly the same as your description.

Update

Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas. Here is what have done:
1) double traced all motors to the right M1-6 on NAZA
2) double checked the prop spin directions are correct
3) adjusted gains in naza auto pilot - I have not done anything on futaba TX

It is still flipping when over 50% throttle. Check out the attached video:
http://vimeo.com/37874203

I also took Michaels' suggestion on gains - I doubled up to 200, 200, 200 and ATTI to 150. I think this made it worse.

I tried to adjust the pitch and roll to less than 100% and yaw over 100% given the 10 - 11 o'clock position the craft seems to start to flip.

Take a look at the whole video...any and all suggestions welcomed. I know I am close.

Thanks

Point the Naza controller facing forward m1, m2 , m3 etc facing the forward direction , Looks like it is pointing on a funny angle on the video .
If you watch when you take off it is going off at about 11 oclock direction . (Thats the problem )

I agree with Geoff, the controller needs to point straight forwards otherwise it will do funny things!

same, unless your front is ment to be the middle between the red and white instead of the 2 reds, its not gonna work.

Yes like I posted in first the Naza is in wrong direction the motor inputs of the Naza has to point to the front of the frame straight forward. You have uses sideways which will cause a flip straighten that out and you will be there.

If all above doesnt solve your problem, then test each motor one by one with prop on, and up to 100% throttle. I have an octo wich did the same thing as yours, the problem was three esc's wich is in the garbagecan now :)

Thanks!

Oh the power of this forum and the simple things.

Thanks everyone for catching the naza orientation. I just had to try it here at 2am and you were all right. I had the naza pointed in the 11ish oclock position instead of straight forward. I re-mounted straight forward (motor labels front) and set the gains back to default of 100% and SUCCESS. First flight was a night flight!

Oh the simple things in life...

Thanks for the help. I hope others may benefit from this thread as well who may make this basic mistake.

I would check the connections between your motors and escs. It was flying fine for a while. However sometimes the heat created in flight can loosen connections. I also noted that you got one red flash right before you landed. Loss of GPS signal??

Thanks Tahoe

The problem continues in all flight modes (Manual/Att/GPS). Calibrated GPS twice. The problem continues even if LED is green. Tried all gain settings. No change. It never used to give this problem. am not able to figure out where could be the problem.

I cannot believe it has been a year since I posted the start of this thread...wow where has the time gone?

I would suggest disconnecting GPS and flying in ATTI mode to see if you have the same problem. Also, are all the props tight and wiring good, particularly motor #2 where you seem to lose power. The red light at the end, does it flash repeatedly? I looks like it goes off completely at the end, but flashing red light can also be low power or another problem.

Finally the good news. I found two bad escs. Motor 1 & 4. Changed and put new escs. Game is on now. Thank you guys for helping and taking interest.
