Team Blacksheep Discovery build

Hi all. this is a post I made on RC groups and FPV lab as well, but am trying to get opinions from experienced people... so I thought here too would be ok..

I am at the moment building a QAV500 with this setup, but have been asked by my brother to make a TBS Disco build for him and his kid for xmas , the TBS order is due in in the next 24 hours or so, this exact same setup may be used on the TBS or I may go with the core not sure yet... I ordered 4 x TBS frames, and 2 x cores so I will make 2 like this and 2 x with the core. onto my RCgroups post :

things I would like to add

1. is the UBEC I chose rated high enough ( its the 2.5A one )
2. would I be better grabbing the 3s voltage from the balance port of the battery ? will this unbalance the cells on a 4s setup though ?

So im about to power up my system and I thought I'd ask here first as magic smoke is not wanted

I have read up on this as much as I can and as far as I can understand the power from the main pack ( I'm using 4S on my QAV500 ) has to go through a Ubec ( a HK 12v one like this :

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...y_12_23v_.html

and then im putting it straight into one of these :

http://www.readymaderc.com/store/ind...roducts_id=533

then I've wired it so it goes into the " OUT " connector on the EZOSD according to the picture below I found online.. now this doesn't make much sense to me as its labelled out unless this is a simple voltage pass through or something ?

anyway , I have wired my pixim seawolf from sc2000.com up as shown by my picture also.. is this correct ? should I be putting another LC common mode filter between the EZOSC and the Camera ? or is one enough ?

also , is the 12V input ok ? ie will the EZOSD simply pass through the 12V and my camera and Vtx will get 12V?

What influence will the current sensor have on either

a : noise to the camera and VTx ?
b : voltage supplied to them ?

it will be wired as expected with the main pack going through it for purposes of OSD monitoring.. am I creating ground loops here ? am I going to get a magic smoke ????

cheers everyone. ill probably post on FPVlab as well

1. the ubec is too big, it's only problem. makes more noise than necessary. The whole thing will draw around 1 amp cam and vtx
2. no your not better off. it is the noisiest way to get power and will screw with your packs

I ran that powersupply on a model that didn't live more than a couple flights. it kept failsafing and i can't say for certain that product did it, i never used it again and haven't had the problem

these are the prefered products
http://www.dpcav.com/xcart/Adjustable-Voltage-Regulator-1-35V-Step-Down.html
i've got these on ebay for like $2 delivered, but it took all of 30 days to get

http://www.dpcav.com/xcart/Power-Supply-Filter-L-C-Type.html

the current sensor makes noise and can be an interference influence. You want the current sensor, esc, bec, servo all together, vtx, cam all by them selves as much as possible.

it goes lipo, voltage reg, filter, 12v to cam/vtx.........

alot of the other questions got redundant, let me know if i hit what you were asking

Hey Kloner

thanks for replying, would you believe it its your fault I am building the 4 x TBS Discoveries.... My 10 yr old nephew watched your youtube vids and went nuts. He has been harassing me ever since! He's been flying LOS F450 Naza and he's pretty good, time to build the TBS setup I think...I am also a fan, and have decided to build us all one each.

Anyway, I actually have a few of the DPCAV voltage regs you mentioned already so ill unsolder the crappy HK one and setup the other. I assume you mean that in order to keep everything seperate as much as possible I should just feed the yellow video cable from the cam to the EZOSD and have the power lines for cam and VTX on a seperate loop using the LC power filter ? I'll resolder and post more pics.... cheers anyway , cant wait to get the thing flying but I want to tread carefully prior to powering up as smoke would mean not ready for xmas...:)

yes, that's how i run mine. Some osd's need a ground with the yellow wire so start in that direction with wire, they bail the black one if you don't need it

Glad to hear about the influence. rock on

Working on mine... No image from the cam through the core so I'm trouble shooting that now

I'm having the same problem not getting any video thru the cam and the core.
The vtx and vrx work fine with the go pro but not with the 69 and core connected.

Did my best but it's not great. no macro lenses...

The connection to the bottom board to cam
View attachment 7873View attachment 7876
the connection to the vtx, immersion 5,8 the two on the front are the power and in the back the extra ground, video and audio
View attachment 7874

The connection to the vtx, skipped the 5v power and the ground vid and audio.

Have checked everything 3 times before powering up to prevent the magic smoke release.
Have checked the vtx and rtx with go pro and this works perfect.

Try takin those -/+ vtx wires and putting those on a regular -/+ contact patch... Not by the plug?

Also should the vtx core portion be soldered as 5v or 12v.
I'm using the immersion so I should have that as 12v like the cam correct?
