XAircraft SuperX OSD and Bosman-Type 5.8GHz 32 Channel Transmitter Wiring

Hi,

Can you please tell me if a XA OSD cable will fit right into one of the fairly standard 5.8GHz 32 Channel TS832 Video Transmitters one can get on eBay? If not is there an adapter available? I know XAircraft sells one of these transmitters adapted to an OSD connection somehow but is there simply an adapter one can use if the OSD and one of these transmitters is not Plug & Play?

I assume that the AV Out cable that comes with a GoPro3 will fir right into the OSD though, right?

I searched a bit and could not find answers to my n00b questions.

No and No! you may be able to get your dealer to make a patch cable for you to suit your hardware, you can understand why a manufacturer can't make a universal connector given all the various type of VTX and camera on the market and able to work with this OSD.

from what I remember the OSD side of the connectors are supplied either flat plug or radio plug the the third party hardware are just bare wires for you to connect the applicable plug. this dealer sometimes has various leads and plugs http://www.goodluckbuy.com/hobbies-and-toys/multicopter/xaircraft-spare-parts.html

Cameras like GoPro and Mobios are standard black and yellow(white) wires as are the VTX plus power from the battery

Thanks Davis!

Don't tell me that with all the XA OSDs and 5-pin 5.8GHz 32 Channel VTXs out there that nobody has built an appropriate wire/plug combo?

I can't bring myself to pay $100 above cost of the TX just for an appropriate plug & play cable and TS832 TX from XA...

This can't be true..?

there all different lengths, etc. no money in cables like that cause everybody makes there own for pennies....

the easiest way is to get the Xaircraft 3.5mm 4 place plugs or you can get something similar in the radioshack 3.5mm 4 place extension av cables for a few bucks, mine has em behind the counter, it's the same thing immersion unos use, same thing a fatshark goggle uses. the xaircraft one is small, easy to decipher and in this last osd i bought 3 weeks ago came with it. had a pair of them, v2 osd. they make a super clean piece to solder up with your TS832 cable that it came with. Cut the wires to length, tin both wire ends, add a little solder to the tip of your iron and heat both wires ends holding them together, cover that joint with appropriately sized heat shrink.

This games not plug and play, helps weed the weak out.

you will want to learn how to solder, if you don't yet, get taught at that shop you got there. You can get a decent iron at Radio Shack for under $20..... soldering is a basic required skill to do almost anything on the rig, from new batteries changing power plugs to replacing an esc to putting in a fpv system. Don't be scared, it's pretty easy. if you want to go in get this one...

On the first post or so look at all of the videos; but video 5 gives some soldering tips. This thread is what I used to get the hang of building and soldering multirotors. I made light of it but Kloner is right soldering is a key skill - good luck!

Thanks everyone!

I have no problem with things like soldering and working with small hand tools, it's the hardware and different plugs and wiring for these machines that I'm unfamiliar with. I'll figure it out but I'm just surprised that there are no ready-made solutions for these small applications.

I'll be picking-up a nice soldering iron and some proper solder for these occasions.

Just had a quick conversation with Ken this morning regarding my order too, great guy, can't wait to get my XCope and start monkeying... :)

fpv cameras and vtx are pretty simple. your flying and it's loud so you can skip all the audio transmission, it'll just induce noise into the system. from there you got a +, - and signal. the only main thing you gotta watch is voltages for vtx's and cameras, but ther eusually 12v and if you fly 3s lipos, you just wire it in. Alot of cameras are 12v max and on 4, 5, 6s lipos need a bec to bring it down, we use buck conveters for those,,,, $2 on amazon. Most vtx's have a built in bec and can take 4s or up to 6s, other cheaper ones need 12v as well and use the same buck converter for both pieces. some cams are 5v and i think the vtx you have has a 5v output for cameras like that, for sure the immersion do and makes them easiest to use.

Thanks for that and all your other comments kloner!

I'll be using a GoPro Hero3+ running off it's own battery for FPV so I won't have to worry about powering this camera properly but if I learn how to switch between the GoPro and a possible CMOS camera this info will come in really handy to know. I will likely be using at least a 11.1v 3s 30c 5000 mah lipo on my Xcope but haven't gotten that far yet... ;)

BTW, is there an easy way to toggle FPV between a GoPro and a CMOS camera through the XA OSD or is setting switchable FPV for more than one camera not possible with SuperX or does this require extra hardware?

Anyway, between the great service I'm getting from XA and the help in these forums I'm going to be just fine. Suuuuuper excited to dive right into my new hobby.

I might be wrong, know it has two inputs but i'm not sure if you can switch on the fly.... just read the manual to see and it doesn't mention anything

No! should be and would be nice but it isn't, you can do it with a third party radio switcher, and it seems the version 2 model of the OSD has only 1 video input so XA probably have no intention of doing a firmware upgrade.

...and what is the real deal with UBECs, can someone ELI5 for me, not the most electronically-savvy person around.

Still can't download the SuperX 1.9 manual from XAircraft, it just won't give it up? I was able to get the BB info but I'd sure like to start R'ingTFM...

the best bec is buck converter for fpv, is low power so is low noise but is plenty for a vtx and camera or retracts.....

you would need some 1" heat shrink to go over that once you get it built.... my ace hardware has it, 3m brand, really nice stuff.

Oh, that's nice.

Why do you suppose I was able to quickly down the BB User Guide pdf, because this isn't the hobby for me? What an ***.

I've since downloaded it with Safari as my daily-driver Firefox is completely Java/Flash/script/add/etc./ disabled. Easier to down with a spyware browser than try to figure-out why I can't with my install of Firefox. Never had trouble loading a pdf before, wierd... No Adobe products for me as a rule, for numerous reasons I care not to mention.

mouse is pretty abrassive and he doesn't hold back. You'll get used to him, he is amazingly smart about the superX
