The HPR - High Power Rocketry people have been doing GPS tracking for several years now and with much success. All the options here are simple and cost effective as there is no need to use a cellular system which is not an option in some rural areas. http://www.bigredbee.com/ Never mind the unprofessional looks of this hokey web site..... this guy knows what he is doing.
While the 900Mhz fhss options are unlicensed so anyone can use them. But several of the others require a HAM radio license. I use the 70cm GPS unit in conjunction with a handheld HAM radio which looks a lot like a walkie-talkie but with enough functions and buttons to drive you completely nuts!!! VE6GLT



I'm gonna try the GPS tracker that ridding hood mentioned. I ordered it yesterday comes from china so probably get it in a few weeks.
