Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Hi All,

I'm curious has anyone seen any footage of the new Hoverfly Gimbal Controller in action? I'm interested in purchasing it but I have not seen anything that can give me an idea of just how good it is. I'm planning on using it on a 3 axis cinestar gimbal.

Regards,

Andre

I preordered one for my 3 axis cinestar. I'm just hoping it works well. If it doesn't, it's going back. I'm betting it will work well though.

Hi Benjamin,

I'm sure it will work, I just don't have the convenience of just sending it back as I stay in South Africa.

But I'm curious to see the final product.

Pre ordered one myself aswell, I have no experience with hoverfly but am trusting their history. If it blows ill try and return it, if not i have a 300 dollar gimbal controller for my smaller quad and ill have to buy another type lol

So we have the Naze 32 the Hoverly gimbal the Photohigher Skyline and George's Mamo Picloc 3x pro.

Be interested to see a comparison.

Thanks Elliot,

I had a look at the video and I think a little more time could have been spend setting up the unit as it looks like it over compensates a lot. I also want to find out from Hoverfly if it will stabilize in the third axis as well, by this I mean if the Multirotor platform rotates on its axis will the Gimbal still be pointing in the intended direction/target that you focused on?

I really hope it is a worth while product as the price is good and I'd like to go for a complete Hoverfly system.

The last time I saw something with that much lag was on the offering from Feitech, that is never going to work the way it is.

I currently have a Skyline test unit installed on the AV130 on my Cinestar and a Naze32 on the way. The Naze was intended to be used as a flight controller on an FPV quad but I guess I should try it as a gimbal IMU as well to see how it compares, just need to dig up the proper code/settings for it.

I'd like to try a Picloc but they're as hard to get as a CC board...

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
from what I understand the HoverGimbal is the gimbal control hardware from the Hoverfly Pro board with a third axis added to it. If you're happy with the stabilization from the Pro board, the gimbal should be virtually the same.

Looking at the Hoverfly gimbal stabilisation I think they need to do some more work on this because the camera is still moving a heck of a lot .

I have a Naze 32 on the way too. I can try and see what performs better out of my XA FC/AHRS, Naze 32 and Picloc 3x pro.

The Picloc 3x is in for a high quality gyro upgrade soon, don't know how much difference that will make.

Here's another option:

I didn't post this one with my other nab vids because Tabb posted his own vid saying the same thing almost word for word, and frankly at the time I didn't realize it was a whole new system. They're supposed to have their own FC coming out too. One of the things that surprised me was that none of the gimbal vendors had a live camera/monitor setup on display, hard to really judge how good any of them are by the rigs being toilet bowled around in front of you.

The HoverflyGIMBAL configuration tool can control the roll and tilt advance. These were set rather slow in the first demo video so there is a bit of intentional lag. You will be able to adjust it to your desired lead or lag. We will have another video out shortly.

Hi Photronix,

That looks very good and it sounded like it might have been a pretty windy day as well? One thing I just want some clarity on, does the Gimbal controller have object lock? Say for instance I point the camera at the car in your video and then the pilot rotates the multirotor on its axis will the camera still be pointing at the car? I hope the question makes sense....

But once again congratulations it really looks like it works well and I'm definitely going to purchase one.

Yes and No. If you maintain the position of the aircraft and the car stays in the same relative position then YES because its bearing would be constant and the HoverflyGIMBAL has magnetic heading lock. However, if the object is moving then the relative bearing would change. Without information about the position of the car then the HoverflyGIMBAL will not have the required information to update pointing direction......but this is coming ;)

OK sorry my explanation was a bit bad, but you hit the nail on the head with the magnetic heading lock that is what I wanted to know.
