Using a Futaba c10 transmitter. Camera was just a $12.00 high def video cam from eBay, nothing wireless.

I will reserve my initial reaction, as it wasn't very complementary.

Let's just say that this kind of behavior is reprehensible!

It's irresponsible behavior like this that gives the hobby a very bad image.

I think that a plane has a lot more to worry about than my quad. There is nothing here for miles as you can plainly see. Anything can be heard coming for miles. And that is very seldom.

You're really putting yourself in the firing line here Proto, this sort of thing is not advisable, best just not to do it mate.

When I said pretty good, I thought it was FPV being trasmitted then recorded to a base station. Guess not, but still not bad for a $12 onboard camera. What gets me, is if you didn't have wireless gear, and you flew that high (even in a safe zone) how can you see? Whadda yah on crack? you must be to fly that high !!!

FYI: I have hi visibility red and white led’s all the way around and a strobe on the bottom. I can’t believe you’d think that I’d be so irresponsible. There are ten’s of thousands of military and law enforcement drones out there in service right now, some bigger and some smaller. Most of which have no lights at all. FPV is no safety feature. Their all mostly flying as blind as me. They file no flight plans. They use no radar. And they go further and some higher than anything I’ve got. If ya want to run to the faa, fcc, fbi, cia, then fu2 and get a life. Ya going to turn all of them in too. Pluck the log from your own eye before you worry about the splinter in mine. Common sense, use it, treasure it. Common sense isn’t so common any more. This is my last post on your forum-you folks are to much for me.

Did you check anywhere to see if in fact you are violating controlled airspace. CHANCES ARE THAT YOU WERE. In some areas in the UK for example military jets are often operated at 250 ft and at 420 mph. in designated temporary routes to stay under the major airport TMA's.

Boy, you can say that again. All it's going to take is one ding-dong like this to have their craft involved in an "incident" and we will all be regulated to death.

Whew! This thread was on fire for a minute. Yeah...that height was crazy. It was amazing to see a multirotor climb that high, but pretty crazy. Of course pilots, the FAA (& other civil aviation authorities), to include the public wouldn't be happy about this.

I do think there will be future regulation/s on these craft, simply because of what they are capable of doing. Technology advances faster than the pen can keep up.

Now...about the height of an Unmanned Aerial System, UAV, remote controlled aircraft....

The FAA has guidance on height limitations, but not a regulation?? An honest question.

note: "should be kept below 400 feet above ground level (AGL)...

Should is not must or shall be kept below 400 feet.

The regulations are coming because of stunts. The posted video is not the first and certainly not the last.

[h=3]Do I need to get approval from the FAA to fly a model aircraft for recreation?[/h]No. FAA guidance does not address size of the model aircraft. FAA guidance says that model aircraft flights should be kept below 400 feet above ground level (AGL), should be flown a sufficient distance from populated areas and full scale aircraft, and are not for business purposes. Ok, maybe I was a little harsh on the guy. I'll admit I'm not the most politically correct person. However, I thought I did a pretty good job of sugar coating my response.
I'm old, deal with it.

And Dewster is right, should is a suggestion in Fed speak. Though I would really like to read what adennium 1 & 2 are to that sentence.

All I know is if we want Big Brother to stay the hell out of our hobby we all have to be self governing.

I understand where he is coming from, he was in a nice open place, all that good stuff.
However, he did ask what we thought, after all.
When you ask then you have to be prepared to take the bad with the clap on the back. Obviously, he wasn't. I do know that he pulled the vid from boobtube after his last post.

My intention was not to ruffle his feathers, though that appears to be what I accomplished. For that, I am sorry.

Time now to go see the eye doctor, get that log out of my eye. No wonder I can't see. All this time I thought it was just s**t from living this long with my head up my a**!!!

it's all good tom........ this obviously won't be accepted by anybody serious about the hobby and your correct about us having to govern ourselves. That's how it's gotten along this far

i've worked in the aviation industry, did 12 years sharring a big hanger with an a&p so know how everybody feels coming from both sides. theres nothing a pilot worries more about than hitting something. it leads to nothing good. to do that blind is russian roulette.

there is no forum that'd accept it. i still think it's a mirracle he got it back. I've sent mine up in my front yard 200 feet and could see it alright, enough to keep orientation but christ, a half mile. You can't see a goose a half mile up from the ground and they got a 7' wingspan

Guy needs to join the millitary, tell em you want to be a sniper, America needs you

Amen to that...! Just when I am starting to enjoy this.. hard enough time to avoid conversation with spectators about "a hovering thing with camera" conversation. there is always someone asking "can you spy on your neighbors".. question or "can it carry weapons"?.. etc.

Until I say something like.. "have you ever wish you had a video of your outdoor picnic with all the over families..--pause-- from the skyview?", then it turns the conversation to something more productive and positive way.

I aint even looked at the video just the numbers scare me. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS? ITS TOTALLY ILLEGAL AND IRRISPONSIBLE. I cannot see your location but if you were in the UK I would be on the CAA's whistle blowing site now.

I just hope this was done in ignorance of the laws and in the heat of the moment. Proto7 you seriously need to check out the rules of flying RC craft in your area NOW and stick to them. The consequences of your actions could have been horrific.

I really dont want to see any more posts oh here or such irresponsible actions. If you read this Proto7 take the warnings seriously. If you had come back in this thread with shock that your actions where classed as irresponsible then lesson learned but you seem to think its ok for you to disregard the law just coz you think the military do.. wrong answer.

Yep... I get asked questions on how high or far it can fly which are often followed by "you can spy on your neighbors..", or "aren't you worried about the FBI?". One time I flew my Multirotor and (it wasn't a nice area) people thought it was a police drone. There was a police foot pursuit near the park the preceeding day. There's a lot of negative attention with these craft. The fear is terrorism by terrorist, spying on neighbors by voyeurs, and FAA airspace incursions. The list goes on. I'm certain that the paranoid are out there calling authorities whenever they see these things floating in the sky. High altitude flights only brings more negative attention.

I will keep flying. It's fun and something that I always wanted to do. Like I said before. Regulations are coming because of stunts and the capability of these craft.
