Can someone please explain the NAZA's Receiver Advanced Protection function?

Thanks. I read it but I'm still confused. It's page 20 in the NAZA-M V2 quick start guide.

Don't move the sticks for 20 seconds and the Naza will think that it has effectively lost Tx signal. It will then enter fail-safe mode and RTH. I think it is another feature for new users. Take your hands off the sticks and things will be ok if you just let the electronics take over. Works most of the time. If it does not then DJI will hear from you. I have never had it kick in and I have been hovering in place for quite sometime doing video. But even hovering, I am not completely off the sticks, so while I am not making any gross movements, I may be making micro movements that make it where the Naza does not trigger RAP. Not sure. I may have to try that the next time I am at the field.

In a situation where communication between the radio and Naza is lost - ie a fly-away - DJI are assuming that there will be no input change on the control channels, which is probably a fair assumption if the loss is down to external interference.

However, 20 seconds is a long, long time when something goes AWOL, plenty of time to go up very high, into something or well beyond clear line of sight.

It might be good to see an advanced option pane in the naza/phantom assistant which allows (advanced) users to change that delay time to something they feel more comfortable with.

Personally, I'd be happier with a 3-5 second failsafe on input loss (freeze?).

Thanks for that question.
I had the same one.
Sounds like something I'll do without.

it is selectable to turn on or off in the assistant. yea, i wouldn't mess with anyway to let the thing fly itself, low power, return to home, i'll leave that for once in a blue moon

As a user, I agree. As a forums owner who tries to stay open to advancement I'd to believe it would work when necessary and return a wayward heli to its owner.

If the protections kick in will the NAZA see it through or will a panicked pilot still fumbling with the sticks cancel it out?

Thanks for the replies.

Can't answer your question but as some one who hovers to take a photo or video of an event, my hovers often exceed 20 seconds and I like the flexibility of watching my screen and adjusting the camera.
I'm afraid it would be counterproductive to me.
On my playthings it might be a different story. I am tempted to try it.
I've only recently upgraded my firmware, with Ed's help, and I'm getting used to smoother flights and that throttle thing.
I have renewed confidence in my Naza since I haven't heard about many fly-away's.
