I think @cootertwo is right. Any time I've read about boat launches, the calibration/startup was done on the dock before heading out.

That sounds like a good plan. I think you'd probably want a lower Kv motor if you were adding payload. But by that time you'll probably be on to a new frame, new props new.... :)

Gotcha. That makes sense. The 13" on the 680Pro was good for very light gopro gimbal and long(ish) flight times. I don't think it's meant for carrying the payload originally discussed.

I'm assuming you're saying the 810 uses 16" max? I think the 680Pro maxed out at 13" props without installing longer booms.

I have not really seen the 3DR vitriol that you mention, but I have seen plenty of positive feedback here on MRF for the APM line in general. I'm curious to see how 3DR moves forward as well. There was a lot of hype about the Solo, followed by a lot of excitement, followed by.....crickets...

Don't the Movi gimbals have encoders on the motors already? Sorry. Just saw the "Movi style" I think JFRO found some motors being sold with encoders. He should chime in soon.

Have the ESCs been calibrated the same? Have you tried swapping that motor to a different esc to see if the issue follows the motor or the esc? More details about the setup will help. Flight controller, ESCs brand, esc firmware, motor brand etc.
