Request for "Newbie" section on this forum......

I think that this is a good example of why we might need some stickies that have vocabulary lists and explanations of acronyms. I am impressed by the language abilities of the non-native english speakers, but when one mixes a bunch of acronyms, tech jargon, and sometimes somewhat confusing...

Request for "Newbie" section on this forum......

Wow!! That thread to which you linked was pretty scary. Good safety tip that I might not have gotten otherwise though. Props off!! unless actually ready to fly. Which also brings up this question. Do the threads on the counter rotating engines go the other other way like they do on many...

Request for "Newbie" section on this forum......

I'm assuming the Viper is not new as he/she has 900+ posts (although at my current rate I could have that in less than a year and will still be a novice) and also because of some if his posts that I have read. I certainly will attempt to seek out what I can, but am lazy enough to wish that I...

Request for "Newbie" section on this forum......

You realize that the OP is not a newcomer. He is one of the experienced pilots trying to look out for us beginners. I certainly will be reading as much of the pertinent stuff as I can, but some of it is of little use without some background, which is where the newcomer section comes in. I...

Howdy again! Thanks for the reply.

Request for "Newbie" section on this forum......

Actually, I did read both of those threads and they were both good cautionaries but neither really tells the newcomer how to find good information. That's where a good newcomer site (better than "newbie") could be really helpful. Here are some things I'd like to see: 1. a short article on...

Request for "Newbie" section on this forum......

Howdy Bart! Hope your jaunt was pleasant! Looking forward to talking with you this week. As one of those newbies, I have a number of questions and am pretty sure that I don't know enough to be confident that I am even asking the correct questions. Might be nice to have a glossary esp of the...

    Cinestar ???

Howdy Jim! Thanks for the reply. Well, although I am ordering the center frame for the Ladybird (that's what broke) I did manage to super-glue it back together this afternoon and ran out one battery charge practicing in an empty room (about 15X20) and managed to keep it aloft for 36 seconds...

F550 What wieght are you flying with

Brother you ain't kidding!!! Camera/lens combo I'm looking at is $2000.00+! Thanks for the info. You don't say what your intended lens will be (big weight component).

Request for "Newbie" section on this forum......

OK Steve, I'm not so insecure in my own abilities (or lack there of) to ask the simple questions. Problem is, I'm not sure what those questions should be. Perhaps you could suggest five basic questions we should be asking to get started. Here are my personal initial concerns with a bit of...

Request for "Newbie" section on this forum......

First let me say that I am one of the newest of new folks here. I think that my main issue is WHO DO I TRUST? Most of the people with whom I have had actual conversations are directly involved with the retail part of this business (would like to sell me something). They have seemed very...

    Cinestar ???

Thanks for the encouragement. That was basically what I was trying to do in my backyard but I couldn't get it to hover without drifting quite a bit and don't know if it was due to wind or imbalanced thrust. The instructions are so cryptic that I have no idea if there is some way to adjust trim...

F550 What wieght are you flying with

How much of that is camera and lens? What kind of flight time are you getting? How does it fly? Thanks

    Cinestar ???

Well, at the moment, the problem is I can't control it. A 10-20 sec flight is really something. I started in the house and THAT was instantly a bad idea (smacked the ceiling and then caromed off the book case and the back of the sofa before landing upside down on my desk). Took it outside into...

    Hey Bartman!

Thanks! Some questions one doesn't necessarily wish to ask in open forum, either for lack of wishing to be flamed, or to allow frank answers that folks might be reluctant to give in the open.

    Cinestar ???

Hey Jim! Thanks for the reply! I hope the ones with the more sophisticated controllers are easier to fly than the little Walkera ladybird I got the other day. Already crashed it hard enough to need some replacement parts. That little bugger really zips around!!

    Hey Bartman!

Howdy Bartman! I've PM'd you to see if possibly you could be a bit more specific in your cautionary comments to Newbies. Especially vis a vis the part you bolded. Thanks. HPL

Watch Rise of the Drones on Novas website

Pretty cool, but the argus is pretty scary. Looks a lot like the TV show "Person of Interest". Too able to keep track of everything. Big Brother really COULD be watching.

Some of my first AP shots

Is Slow Fly a brand? Did you start with a Kit or just a frame? Do Slow Fly props turn slower and if so do they take a special motor? (Sorry for all the questions, but you are basically flying what I am looking at (Sony NEX 7 probably with the Carl Zeiss 24mm).

Thanks for the conversation. Nice to get a response. ONe more question: what lens on the NEX-7? HPL
