    How many here are Hams?

Technically speaking you have an amateur radio license of at least technician class to use 5.8 ghz FPV (and other) systems. No one is enforcing it and I don't think the Ham community has a problem with the FPV guys but it is a requirement. I had my general class license before I started in...

$125 Tarot ZYX-M Flight Control - Had to try it.

Looking forward to hearing how it works.

First build with questions (FPV Quadcopter)

Solder with some lead in it is better than lead free. Flux makes things a lot easier too. Those power leads look like cold solder joints to me. You may want some strain relief on them as well so you reduce pulling on them.

    Bright props vs. black props

I guess orange is the new black.

    First build, a few questions...

Also, some extra silicone wire and some heat shrink tubing . You will probably want a bunch of bullet connectors as well unless you already know how your going to connect things. Figure out what battery connector your going to use and buy a few now. I used a 12 VDC regulated power supply for my...

    First build, a few questions...

Buy a couple extra carbon fiber landing skids. Get the Tarot ones. One seemingly small but hard landing and they snap. Trust me you want them to snap. I replaced mine with thick heavy walled CF tubes and I had a hard landing and rather than snap it transferred all of the energy up the landing...

    Help Choosing FPV

I would only use my go pro for filming or stills. I have always gone for the dedicated FPV camera. If your trying to frame a shot for a nice pic (or video) then its helpful to see what the camera that your recording with sees but other than that I like a dedicated FPV camera. When I first...

    Phantom Crash

The open source hardware/firmware stuff is really cool. You need to learn it but they usually have their own forums and everyone is helpful. When I set up my cc3d there was a list of dozens and dozens of UAV's to choose from to apply your initial settings and get you going on the open pilot...

    Phantom Crash

Don't worry its all good. I would like to add that DJI holds only the middle ground but not the extreme high end market. The big studios and professional videographers seem to go with other craft entirely. Sure you may see some S1000's with A2's but from what I have seen DJI only has a toe hold...

    Phantom Crash

It wasn't a challenge and I'm not sure why you saw it that way. DJI has a lot of haters and some of their complaints are valid but in the end they are putting out pretty good products and they are constantly trying to improve. You don't put out crap and get 70% of the market share. Plus they...

    Phantom Crash

I have said it before. Dji and 3Dr and others kind of sucked all the fun out of the hobby cause anyone with a few bucks can fly and get shots like a pro in a short time. Kind of like going all out with photography equipment and then some half wit comes by with a cell phone and takes a better...

    Phantom Crash

Dji isn't that bad. They make pretty good flight controllers and other things as well. A lot of people like to hate on them for flooding the market with phantoms that many people use irresponsibly. They are like Microsoft or Google. They hold the largest share of consumer drone market so they...

    Phantom Crash

Phantoms have an.indicator light that flashes red when the battery is getting low. Pretty sure it's user configurable too. Doesn't do you very much good if it's too far away to see but at least it's something.

    Phantom Crash

Yeah I was going to say as well it sounds like your battery died. Good thing is phantom parts are plentiful so a full rebuild isn't that hard to accomplish. I'm careful to set a count down timer if I'm flying without a means to know what my battery voltage is. I know how long my batterys last so...

Extremely low flight times on FPV quad

All good advice.keep eliminating possibilitys untill your sure your doing it right. In the end it could very well be that your charger is not operating properly. Another route would be to get another battery and see it you get the same results. If there is a hobby store in your area maybe you...

That's good. I think you just need to figure out how to work that one. maybe hunt around youtube?

Extremely low flight times on FPV quad

Read the section on lithium polymer battery's at the top of the beginners forum. There's a lot to know and understand. I would recommend staying with that battery as it charges. it sounds questionable. Hopefully its just a charger misunderstanding and it's not badly puffed.

Extremely low flight times on FPV quad

Yes that's probably your whole problem right there. That .5 v per cell or 1.5v overall makes a world of difference. It needs to be 12.6 vdc fully charged for a 3S lipo. Hopefully you didn't damage it by drawing it down too low when you had those other flights. Lipo's don't like getting drawn down...

Extremely low flight times on FPV quad

    Looks like a typical 4 button charger. lipo/Balance/ 1.3 amps/ 3S (11.1v) That's what you want 12.6v when fully charged

Extremely low flight times on FPV quad

If your charger has a "Charge till" function then yes set it at 12.6 but I have never heard of that kind of charger. Thinking maybe you should post a pic of the charger and not the quad. LOL
