    Batteries

My big octo is relatively efficient in the configs I fly. I'm using Mikrokopter electronics, so I have exhaustive data logging. My copter is an X8 with 500mm booms on a Cinestar-like hub. I have the full MK stack including the "Double Quadro 2XL Cool" power board, KDE 4012 motors and T-motor...

    XAircraft SuperX crash... what happened?!

I took a look at the photo of your copter, and I am amazed that you could fly it at all with a rubber band holding the LiPo in place. It's easy to imagine that the battery was bouncing around a little on its booms, causing some serious movement being translated to the flight controller, which in...

    What will happen if...........?

Do you have anything else on your copter that could be causing interference like a FPV transmitter?

Hyper Thin HDMI cables by Sahho - THE BEST!

Agreed. They're awesome. And the connectors are very strong and durable.

Heavy Lift Project Setbacks & Moving Forward

Nobody I know is using those ESCs on heavy lifters. Here's an interesting video that you might appreciate from KDE where they test the responsiveness of their ESC with both their new big motor and a Tiger U7.

Heavy Lift Project Setbacks & Moving Forward

If I was going true heavy lift right now, I'd go with the KDE motors and ESCs. They're very technical folks, based in the USA, and extremely responsive to support questions. U7 motors seem to be extremely tweaky and I've seen tons of horror stories with them over the past few months.

    Batteries

I have seen one vendor ship big LiPos with fake covers to conceal their true capacity to (apparently) get around some regional restrictions on shipping big batteries. :-/

    450 co-axial

Indeed, the Lite can't run an octo: http://www.dji.com/product/naza-m-lite/spec And if you were considering just running it as a quad with two motors per port, that won't work. The copter will be incapable of yawing.

    Batteries

I'm a big fan of Tattu and Pulse 6S batteries. Tattu and Gens Ace are the same, and it looks a lot like Pulse (from HeliDirect.com) are made by them, too. The larger ones (10000+) seem to be in perpetual backorder everywhere, so it's good to have some alternatives. As for dual vs. single, I much...

    Mikrokopter Newbie to Mikrokopter

Do you mean will it fly with one motor gone missing? Absolutely yes. It's happened to me with my original Cinestar 8 (flat octo config), and many since have reported successful landings after losing a motor, prop or ESC.

    Mikrokopter Newbie to Mikrokopter

I was talking about the Navi control. But if you're talking about the Flight Ctrl, you're better off with the 2.5 version just in case you want to upgrade to 6S at some point. It has all the latest improvements.

    Mikrokopter Newbie to Mikrokopter

And I must chime in here on MK in general. The one thing that completely sets it apart is the amount of visibility into the inner workings of the stack. The amount of data to which you have access is unparalleled. ESC temps for each individual unit (called "BLs"), current draws for each BL...

    Mikrokopter Newbie to Mikrokopter

Look for the MK Navi-Ctrl 2.1 instead of the 2.0. The only change is a on-board Molex connector for MK's external compass, which has dramatically improved things for me. It'll work with the MK Navi-Ctrl 2.0, too, but requires some soldering to connect it.

Interference when 5v charging is applied to gopro

Could it be that your 12V BEC is out of juice with all that stuff plugged in? It'd be good to know how much current is being pushed from it with the various bits of kit you're powering. BECs are usually capable of barely 1A or so. And beware...they can melt down if they're pushed too hard.

Check me out flying down a mountatin side!

That looks like huge fun. What's the setup on your Zeph and how far out were you when you were down close to the terrain?

Motor Testing Equality- Independent and Unbiased

eCalc is a helpful tool, but not at all what we're talking about here. There are so many variables that go into power system testing, and eCalc is just a set of algorithms. That code is right until it's wrong, and you have no idea of knowing. That's exactly why we need some real data about these...

Motor Testing Equality- Independent and Unbiased

Agreed. I have a friend who's very RC-savvy, but only a hobbyist (no commercial interest in any products or services), and is also very technically-adept. And this person has the resources to spend the up-front money to get the right gear. But just like restaurant reviewers who often want to...

    8,000 mAh Li-Po seems like a bargain

I had a bunch of those that I sold with my 4S octo, and they worked quite well. When I built my 6S octo, I ordered some of the 6S versions, and they're complete dogs (high internal resistance, saggy curves, etc.). I hope the newer deliveries of the 4S don't follow in their footsteps. I tried to...
