Throw me in the Pix/Fixhawk camp. They're pretty reliable from my experience. But as Old Man warns its all in the careful setup and attention to the little things.

Props might be part of your issue. I use cheap carbon fiber ones from RcTimer for tuning and testing. They're dirt cheap ;)

Exactly the reason I think that we should not be using heavy lift machines at events with spectators. I've had a few "events" myself. I think there is a compromise in there somewhere whereby lighter machines could be used but even then there's an undeniable risk to the public. Closed sets...

Just because 3DR is manufacturering *hardware in China does not preclude them from being involved in the software development. My guess is they will continue to take credit for the system that had been developed before they opened their doors...

Yes, straight down does sound like battery doesn't it. And definitely a machine large enough to kill someone.

I agree with an earlier poster that said drones should not be allowed to film sporting events. There are too many bystanders around, and a drones never crash straight down... Most loss of control involves an angled descent.

IMO very optimistic. 2 jobs per day would tax you... Travel time between jobs alone.. One in the morning one for the afternoon would be about all I'd shoot for.

Arducopter (Pixhawk) will be around for a long time IMO. Arducopter is open source and not owned by 3DR although they'd like you to believe it is. There are many vendors making Pix boards. My favorite of the bunch is RcTimer believe it or not. Highest quality at good prices. I recommend them.

A good place to mention that we must be VERY cautious when cutting and soldering battery leads. One touch between the two leads and it can be game over for that battery. I'm sure we all have such tales ;) Even though fully aware of this I accidentally cut both leads at once a few years ago. It...
