Motor angle dihedral What’s the deal with this?

Well, why else would you do it? The dihedral won't come in to effect unless the controller has already failed to stabilize the craft.

Motor angle dihedral What’s the deal with this?

IMO, the only reason to angle the motors is a band-aid fix for a flight controller that isn't performing properly. Let's say that you have 7° of tilt as I saw, you aren't going to see much virtual dihedral effect until somewhere around half the angle, or 3.5° of tilt. That's a LOT of angle...

Why do people put up with this?

I have the answer to DJI's erratic fly-aways.

This explains why all my shipments arrive in "cardboard bags" by the time they get to me!

DJI Spreading Wings S1000 Octocopter is coming!

Does it come with free hard hats? :highly_amused:

That sort of brings up the one thing I've learned. If I'm confused about what's going on, I simply throttle up and take my hands off the sticks. It should stabilize straight up and climb (away from the ground which is good!). The only time it won't stop and return to level, is if it was in...

Oh, that's who it is. Well, this: Makes me believe even more it was not simple pilot error. Dude knows how to fly. Not a factory team smack 3D pilot, but he can easily fly in all orientations. Probably flies better than some people who are laughing at him. He's better than me, I'm just...

    Coaxial Boom Spacing/Mixer question... asymmetrical?

Glad you did this this way. Some people draw an X between diagonal motors and say the CG needs to be at the center of the X, but that's not right. You did it the correct way. As for the rest of it, I'm pretty sure he's always going to have a problem because the design is asymmetric, and he...

Take free flying lessons from this guy!

If he took off in manual mode, when he didn't mean to be in manual mode, don't you think he would have crashed a lot earlier? As in, several seconds after takeoff? Seems pretty impossible to me that you could be in manual mode, and fly around for a couple minutes without noticing. And are you...

I think you guys should not be too harsh. I've heard this guy was a professional with plenty of experience. It could have been one of those uncontrollable DJI problems. We can talk about the possible causes, but the thread title and some of the comments are not very fair. Sometimes...

Take free flying lessons from this guy!

Ouch. Doesn't seem to me to be a bulk Naza freak-out (ie: FOD), but more like loss of orientation, or a crazy GPS glitch. It didn't just flip and die, it was going somewhere, with attitude control still running.

    Coaxial Boom Spacing/Mixer question... asymmetrical?

Yeah, looks like you've got all the top props turning clockwise, and all the bottom props turning CCW? That's not cool. Does mikrocopter use a top-bottom ratio?

    Another one bites the dust!

If transport is a problem, why not an X8? Yeah, Y6 is not a bad option, it can fly with a motor out (assuming it had enough reserve power). My comment was mostly directed at the S800. A standard Hex.

    Another one bites the dust!

Yep, good point. I always forget that part. Hexas do fly better. I just think, if you're serious, it has to an octo.

Designing a multi-rotor for very high endurance

Yes, that's true but... Don't underestimate the difficulty launching and landing a high performance airplane in unprepared areas. A foam flying wing that can fly for 30 minutes, and crash land is easy. But a fragile, high performance airplane does not like crash landings on rough ground. So...

Designing a multi-rotor for very high endurance

Just so happens I ran across this last night. 2.5 hours with an electric SRH. Boooyah! :highly_amused: http://www.twheli.de/modelle/weltrekord-logo-600-se/english/

    Another one bites the dust!

Yep, that was my guess too, a power failure. I also don't understand why anybody flies a hex. Might as well fly a quad, because you're going down anyway, and a quad has 33% less parts to fail. Yes, a hex can land or... controlled crash... if all the stars are aligned. But it's just not a...

Bags for the travelling circus that is Aerial Cinematography

Yeah, I totally understand the problem with cargo holds. I think they should put them in wing drop tanks. :) If one goes... just let 'er fall. :) But seriously, they'd be totally justified in just saying these are surface only. Freighters transport things like this all the time. It would...

Bags for the travelling circus that is Aerial Cinematography

How would you deal with a lipo fire on an airplane? Sure, you could just throw it in a sink or something and let it burn itself out, but what do you do about the noxious smoke in the cabin?
