2014 - best ESC at the moment?

Weird. Totally different than my experience.

2014 - best ESC at the moment?

What problem were you having with the gimbals exactly? For flight motors, paper labels? You must be talking about the older iBM series? I've never used those, so maybe you're right. The MultiMate series seem to be excellent to me. Great bearings and windings. Jack Erbes does a lot of...

Another Phantom Fly Away - IMPORTANT

Yes, it's that easy. Make a controller that responds properly to RFI. It's 2014 man. This ain't rocket science. What is the point of scanning for radio interference before you fly, when interference (or any number of problems) can and do crop up at any time? The system I use tells me if...

2014 - best ESC at the moment?

What exactly are you seeing as a problem on the iFlight motors? I've found them to be excellent.

Another Phantom Fly Away - IMPORTANT

Or, or... there's a bug in the software that causes some of the flyaways? No, that would be unpossible. It should not be required for users to scan for interference before flying. The system should be immune to most of it. And if the intereference is just too great, then it should do...

Flight controller's ability to handle loss of thrust

Yes, that's why they all have silver balls on them.

Flight controller's ability to handle loss of thrust

Must always be understood when watching those videos, that it's sort of an apples to oranges comparison. They are running a Vicon vision system which determines the attitude of the copters using a desktop computer. That info is then relayed to the copters. Half the battle of getting a...

MultiWii / NAZE / SP Racing F3 Warning about APM2.x performance on Octocopters

But it sounds like you're having brownouts, not CPU bogging?

Pixhawk the new flight controller from 3DR

Wait until you try 3.2. ;) The angular acceleration code that I created will make it even smoother for filming. You'll be able to use as much Stab-P as you want for stability, but get really buttery smooth control of the angle.

Another Phantom Fly Away - IMPORTANT

That sort of thing really should not be required to reliably fly a multirotor with a proper flight controller.

Another Phantom Fly Away - IMPORTANT

Wait, there's a DJI flyaway thread on the internet that Lucien hasn't been shilling on?!?! :highly_amused:

Flight controller's ability to handle loss of thrust

I flew an octo on APM with 3 motors out, just to see if it could be done (of course, I got to choose the motors... and chose wisely) Jes, I'm not entirely sure that DJI is doing it through blind PID luck. If you can recognize the problem, you can change the controller strategy to one that...

APM vs the big boys (heavy lift octo's)

No, I can't see any reason at all why you would give up any potential by using a PX4 instead of a Pixhawk. But just to be sure you're aware, the Pixhawk is readily available now and comes with a nice case.

    brushless gimbals and wind.....question

What kinda speeds you get up to there? I haven't flown mine at speed yet, but I think it's not going to work. It doesn't take much to knock the yaw axis off, and then it swings a long way before stopping. I'm just talking about ground testing, just a light push of the finger. Compared to...

    brushless gimbals and wind.....question

But do I really need that much motor for just a Nex5? I'm pretty sure I need more but, isn't there something in between?

    brushless gimbals and wind.....question

Can you recommend an 80? I think these are 50ish. I'd really like a hollow shaft so I can run the wires through. I'd have to try to match up the holes, guess I could make an adaptor if needed. I really like the metal arms on this gimbal. Very stiff. You could turn it into a mini milling...

    brushless gimbals and wind.....question

Great thread guys. I think a big part of the question depends on whether or not the gimbal is being hit by prop-wash. Because prop wash can cause turbulence which hits the camera, and this just gets so much worse if there's a wind. I built an H8 multirotor where the camera is way out front...

Pixhawk the new flight controller from 3DR

So Denny has decided to wage a battle here because I called him out on his BS on another forum. He tried to derail a blog post of mine by starting to talk about how awesome he is and how he's going to revolutionize RC Aerial Photography with another one of his developments, how great his TDR...

Pixhawk the new flight controller from 3DR

Huang, the F450 is a piece of crap, and I'd never recommend it to anybody for anything other than a beater build. I only use it because it bounces well, which happens fairly often when building the code. But, FWIW, on that quad I've got NTM 28something 800kV motors. 10" APC MR props. And...
