Mikrokopter Full throttle before lift off

Right guys, here's the story. I have all props connected the right way, all motors spin the right way. I had the Mrs hold the octo above her head & she confirmed the stick inputs are correct. So I placed the octo on the deck, started the motors & slowly advanced the throttle....it lifted off the deck at 7/8ths throttle setting!
Im using 2 x 4000mah (35-70c) lipos(in parallel). Motos are 2.3Kg thrust & using 12x6 props. I did by accident get her about 7ft in the air...hurray my first ever MR flight :)
But bringing her down was bloody awful, bounced her 3 times as I needed full throttle.....anyone have any ideas? Im running 0.86d firmware on a Droidworx SJ8.

Yeah that seem fine. I see that you're using regular ESC, did you do the throttle calibration for ESC? I can't say anything else, your craft should take off with a %50 throttle.

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
nice job Ross!!! And it even has the ability to fly, eh?? well done.

like ovdt said it should fly at a much lower power setting. calibrating the ESC's is easy with the pwm/I2c converter that you've got and it's explained pretty well in the directions that you've got the link for. try the calibration again and let us know how it goes.

it'll probably fly with even less than 50% considering the big motors and props you've got there. you might want to consider a bit of ballast to help mellow it out a little. smaller props would also do the trick if you have them handy.

Thanks OVDT & Bart,

I have calibrated the I2C-PWM, but I will do it again just in case. I think, though I could be wrong that its my radio settings?
I used "SUB TRIM" & set the throttle mid point, then it showed 127 in coptertools, but it was reaching 254 a bit before full throttle & likewise for low throttle...so I've adjusted "TRAVEL ADJUST" & now it seem I get to full throttle of 254 when the throttle is fully up. I was wondering if that 230 max throttle setting should be 254 like the other channels????

"She" is beautiful, isn't she? Seven foot in the air, with her slender legs spread so wide like that - what a sight that must have been! Photos?

Only pics of her on the deck, the take off was unintentional, trust me...would you fly a brand new octo for its maiden flight here....not forgetting I have NEVER flown a Multirotor before..I was a virgin MR flier until today ;)

What shocled me most is how responsive she is, I thought it would wallow around...but oh no! She responed immediately...so Bart your idea with weight...great idea, but I do need to sort out this throttle problem, tomorrow in the light I will give her another go. Might even get some piccies for you Jes ;)

Nice to see you got it up after all these months Ross.. Take it easy though

Dave

Dave I'm going to be picking your brains some more, so dont run off just yet ;)

I'm still not sure on many of the settings on kopertools & all the videos I watch never show me what I need to know :(

Hey Ross, make sure AH is not on at all when taking off, check the channels tab and OSD. About the flight time you meantioned in the other thread. Not sure why your flight times are pretty low, what is the total weight? I'm using Turnigy Nano packs and have noticed that the flight time goes up a little after they have been cycled about 5 or 6 times.

I'm using 13x6.5 props with 2x 4S 3300mah packs in parallel and fly for 5.5min before coming in to land, batteries are around the 3.6v/cell but my X8 is 5.2kg loaded.

Cheers,
Craig

AH is definately off as I can climb up to any height I want & back again...but I will make sure again ;)
Total weight is...2 secs let me go way her....between 4 - 5Kg including 2 x lipos! Though Im not sure how accurate our bathroom scales are ;)
What motors are you runnign on yours Craig?

I know when my AH wasn't setup right I could go up and down without a problem even though the AH switch was on.

I'm using Pulso 2814/22 motors

I'm picking you could probably get around 6min flight time as it is. You mentioned the cells were 3.85v after 3min, I run mine down to 3.4-3.5v.

Craig you might be right here! I have set my AH up on AUX2 on my DX7....I have altered travel adjust etc & its on 254 & 0 now. So AH on = 254 (high) or 0(low)???

It should be 0 when off and 254 when on.

Cheers,
Craig

Thanks mate, so I will need to reverse that channel, so that switch down is 254 (ON). So maybe thats why it didnt seem so powerful ;)
How stupid of me.......

Spot on Craig, she flew like a goodun today, thanks for the heads up on the AH...that WAS the problem. Less than 1/2 throttle & she was off the deck, I couldnt even go to full throttle as she climbed quite fast & shocked me. I actually had her in the air for 3 mins exactly today & that was 40% discharge on the 2 packs...so if I set my timer for 5mins & 30 secs, that should be spot on allowing a few seconds to get her on the deck. Have some video that I will edit & upload later.
