congrats Ross on the successful build and first flights!

thanks Bart, I can honestly say its different, yet I feel quite happy flying her, even more so than my trex600!!!!
Im trying to edit 3 mins of video, but my main computer keeps switching off....far too memory intensive for the old girl & my notebook has premiere but for some reason want do HDV :(

Best to get 2 actually, I mistakenly left mine at Daves pad recently and was lost without it!

Oye Gunter you best tell everyone I sent it you back first class post otherwise they will all think I am a finders keepers type of guy! ;-)

Ross, glad you got it sorted. Have you got the Navi and GPS installed yet? Sounds like you are getting exactly the same flight times as me, I also set my TX timer to 5:30.

Dave, how loud are the buzzers, what sort of distance can you hear them from?

Thanks,
Craig

Havent got navi or gps, not yet anyway. I'm hoping to get an OSD so that my camera operator can advise me as to whats going on with the octo when in the air.
Craig tell me what setup you are using your end...you did say an octo?

LOUD and the flashing warning is very bright.. It helped me find my lost copter after 2 hours of searching. I lost her in the wind and found her a little over a mile away ONLY because of the buzzer!
For the money they should be mandatory on every MR.. I set mine to go off at 3.5 volts per cell which gives me me than enough time to land.. GET ONE..

NOW

Glad they paid for themselves for you Dave, so there is a real benefit to having one. How far do you normally run your cells down to Dave if you are starting to land at 3.5V?

I've just ordered one of the smart-OSD's so will let you know how that goes.

My machine is an X8 and I think from memory its about 5.2kg with camera.

Cheers mate. Im lucky in that I have brand new & never been used the following eagletree gear:-
OSD Pro (think its an early one)
GPS
Airspeed expander
Altitude expander (pitot tube missing, HK not supplied)
150A mk3 logger (cant use the logger to monitor voltage & current as all my motors flat out take 328A!!!)
So I can either sling that on the octo & at least get voltage live OSD & Alt & Speed.

I'm sure my machine is about the same as yours when carrying my Panasonic HDC-SD9. What camera are you carrying Craig?

I have the 40D that I use for stills, am about to upgrade & was looking at the 550D, trouble is for my holidays I shoot military jets & I think the frame rate isnt as fast on the 550D as the 7D??

Sorry about your los mate, thats abad one!!!! I would have had tears if my stills cam went in :(

After the crash the camera "seemed ok" but the battery started dying quickly then the images started coming out bady. I'm using the MK camera trigger and the frame rate is SOooo much slower than the 450, not sure whats going on there, maybe it needs a different camera trigger?

Apart from that I'm really happy with the KissX4 - I only got the KissX4 cause it was cheaper than the 550 :)

Hows the Octo now, all flying good?

I had an old 20D like that, got soaked in Madeira & even though it dried out, I noticed a drop in quality & speed until pictures started comming out with purple & green lines!
Have you tried Gentles? http://www.gentles.ltd.uk/gentled/shutter-zoom.htm they have an IR switch for the 550D.

Octo is going great mate, I uploaded a video of her yesterday I think, used the same cam to film from the ground & also from the air to show if there is any difference. She flies really smooth, in fact I prefer her to my trex600...anyone want to buy a trex600ESP ;)

Hi Ross, glad its going well. How do you like the HDC-SD9? I have had one for a few weeks now and I love it. It is light enough for
my quad but resides on the Hexa most of the time.

Hi PJ, I've had mine for about 2 maybe 2 1/2 years now & apart from the LCD suffering with strong sun (you really need to ask my fiancee as she uses it more than me), its light weight, superb quality...though the greens can be VERY oversaturated & easy to carry around with you.
You can see what sort of results we have from ours here:- http://vimeo.com/user1049106/videos all are filmed with the Panasonic apart from the one that states gopro.
My advice is..do NOT use OIS for aerial work, it cant handle fast changes to well.
Have you any film from yours I could see?

Ross
