Where do i start

Im new to multirotors (and this forum- hi all). I currently fly helis (700 size) and need a new project.

Im fancy building a hex for av use and like the idea of fpv.

So where do i start? Ive been trying to read lots but cant find what im after.

Current idea is to start small (not spend loads) and if i get into it go larger later. So DJI F550 with Naza and gps. (i was thinking youd get redundancy with the hex but from what ive seen it doesnt look like you do) Spekky DX8 with telemetry (currently use a JR DSX11, but i was thinking telemetry for the hex), aeroxcraft legs and gopro gimbal, gopro 3 silver.

Can i use the spekky radio for this? Im getting confused reading about long range fpv and all those ground stations look complicated!

Im sure ive seen someone use something plugged into the trainer port of a dx8 which gave more range? But with that theres no point of telemetry and id may as well stick with my JR.

Im in the UK. What kind of simple stuff can i use for fpv video (more for framing the video too start but i like the idea of flying through the woods - i wouldn't be into flying miles up high)

Cheers

Hi Richard, welcome to the Forum. Lots of very useful information about on here. Spent ages reading before I got the same outfit you're thinking of getting.
Give Geoff at www.quadcopters.co.uk a bell and he'll give you all the info you need.

Hi Peter

I'd stumbled across quadcopters.co.uk and planned on using them to buy the f550. Ill give them a bell.

Cheers

Ground stations can get as complicated or as simple as you want. Starting off, look at just a monitor and matching reciever for the fpv vtx, ( plus what your laws will let you get away with ), on a simple tripod.
As your needs grow and you gain more knowledge your station can expand.

A Hexa isn't as bad as you might think in the event of a motor or prop loss. It will still fly, but will lean to the lost side, allowing a controled crash.

Don't really know if Naza has it but WKM now allows a motor loss and still fly home, though I really don't want to find out if it really works or not.
