Repeated drops towards prop 3

Thanks. It looks like the beefiest motors I can get that would fit inside the existing 500X motor cowls (the current motors are 28mm diameter) are the 2217/20s, but looking at the spec here http://www.modelmotors.cz/index.php?page=61&product=2217&serie=20&line=GOLD they're a higher kv and lower power than you're recommending. The spec says that they can fly a 650g 3D plane, does that mean with 4 of them I could lift a 2,600 gram quad?

Do you think they would do the job? or is it time to replace the whole motor attachment system (at which point I think I can probably stop referring to it as a 500X)?

I think I must be missing something. The spec on the 2217s says that their outer diameter is 27.7mm, the 2814s say that their outer diameter is 35mm. When you talk about 28mm motors, does that 28mm measurement refer to something other than the outer diameter?

Right, I get you. Sorry, it's early morning here and I'm only just having my coffee :).

Okay, so it looks like my options are:
1) Drop back down to 1 battery pack to reduce the weight and manage with short flight times and being on the edge of what the motors can handle.
2) Replace the motors with 2217s and hope that that does the job :S
3) Upgrade to 2814s which means also replacing motor cowls and probably booms.
4) Use this rig as a practice flyer and buy a new rig to carry the GoPro.

Can't say I'm super-excited about any of those options, but "needs must when the Devil vomits into your kettle" as Blackadder says...
