Quad spinning and not getting Air. Video Link inside.

Hi guys. As you will see this is my first post so I'm probably going to say something stupid. On page 1 this guy says he has 530 KV motors on 10 inch props surely this is never going to produce enough lift to get this thing off the ground or am I missing something?
Doh! Nigel, I think you're right. I'm not motor/prop guru, but at that lower spin rate, and only 10" props, it seems like that would be the root cause. Especially since he said he was at 100% throttle. My F450 skyrockets at 100%, and I have it more loaded than Drewvian seems to have his.

I thought that could have been the problem too. When I ordered my program card I also ordered bigger props. Not sure if they will be big enough. How do you know if you have gotten the correct props? I've tried searching online for either a table/method or a simply way to calculate what type of props you need, but never came across anything concrete.

Never even noticed that, and the bad thing is, you can't go much larger in that frame due to arm length.... your going to need something in the range of 800+kv on 12"props. It's your frame a 450 size or larger.

I'm running the Talon v2 frame from Hobbyking. It looks like I should have room to run 12 inch blades. it will be tight, but it is doable. Also, I'm very happy we didn't find this out to begin with because I learned a hell of a lot going through your guys other suggestions. I really appreciate it. my frame is 498mm.

Is that battery that you have a 3s or 4S 5000Mah. If its a 3S 5000Mah your battery is too small try using a 4S 5000Mah.

It is a 3S, you suggest using a 4S? Could you explain why? Sorry, I am really new and don't know much about quads and just slowly learning the intricacy behind it.

I had the same thing happen on my X4 650 quad. But I was using (2) 3S 5000Mah batteries and no lift off. I switched over to a 4S 5000Mah and it took to the air. The 3S 5000Mah batteris just were not powerful enough for the copter. So try a 4S if you have one laying around and see if that makes a difference. Or even try (2) 3S batteries and see what that does.

Hi Drewvian adding another 3S battery will only make things worse it will give you more capacity and more weight which you definitely don't need. Changing to 4S batteries may help but you will need to check that everything else in the system will take the extra voltage. I can't find any information on the motors you say you have so it's difficult to say for sure but I think the real answer is to change your motors for something more suitable.

Drew where did you but you motors. I know that adding another 3S battery will increase the weight. But just using a 4S battery alone will probably get his copter off the ground and hes 25Amp esc' will handle 2S to 4S battery I fly my 650 quad on a single 4S battery and a 3S or (2) 3S batteries will not get it off the ground and I have 580Kv motors and I was also using 10X4.5 props with an AUW of 2400g.

I bought my motors from HobbyKing. I thought at the time they would work, but I failed to realize that I need a 4S instead of a 3S battery. I just bought new ones that are 1240KV, I think that will do the trick and they will run on 3S batteries from everything that I checked and from the specs.

Did your 530Kv motors say that they ran on 2S to 4S or did it say that they ran just on 2S to 3S batteries?

Could you tell me why you gave up on ESC that needed programming?

I bought some esc's from hobbyking along with what I thought was a programming card. Turned out I needed something else too which I didn't order. Those esc's are still in a box never used. I chose these esc's instead:

http://www.altitudehobbies.com/maytech-eagle-multi-series-30a-multicopter-esc-opto-simonk-1?search=simonk&description=true&sub_category=true

I only needed to calibrate each esc to my throttle travel. I can't believe how smooth my quad takes off and flies. SimonK firmware was designed for multirotors.

Programming an esc seems too much trouble.

What I am doing is getting a 4S battery and new motors. First I will probably just switch out the motors to see if that works. I should be getting my new motors sometime next week. I will update this thread when I get them and am up and flying. =) You all have been great with the help.

Finally I got an update for you guys. First, I got my quad up and flying today. I changed the motors to a 1240kv motor and it took off like a champ. Next, I am going to replace the frame because I feel like the vibration from the frame is hindering my overall stability. Second, I ended up breaking a boom today, but good news is I have an extra one at work. I can use my dremel to cut it down to size or could just try and make my own frame tomorrow. Not sure which one I should do. I have video coming and so far have only uploaded one. Also, does anyone know of a good place to get some things 3d printed in metal? I ran into a couple of things that I need replaced, but instead of making it myself with the raw materials. I would like to try out a 3d printer. I went to school for VFX and know my way around 3D programs well. Thanks for the help guys and finally happy to be able to fly.
