Positive Z axis?

I read somewhere today that your Z-axis entry will always be a negative number. However, if my GPS sits 3 inches ABOVE the COG, how can that number be a negative?

The Manual is specific on the orientations and values.

the values were probably set in the firmware by the engineers way before they had to make a user manual. so they turned out to be weird in that negative is in the positive direction and positive is in the negative direction, it's all relative.

The clash of cultures I think are the main reason ie in China red is a lucky colour hence why it is positive when normally for us we would associate red with negative. However, as said, the manual and indeed the software provide a very good diagramme so just follow that.
