Hi Everyone,

New to multi-rotors, been a keen RC enthusiast since I was a lil kid. Recently been into RC Drifting, but have been hooked on Quad Rotors in particular for the last month and decided to build myself one!

As I am totally new to this, I did as much research as I could (as i am quite impatient and want to get started already)

So far I have this on order coming from the states (as I am in Australia! - Greeting from down under! ;) )

Here are my list of items:

What do you think? have I missed anything crucial??

Comments and criticisms welcome!!

Hi mate, ive just started getting the parts to my next quad and they are close to what you have there, my frame is a flame wheel copy with similar parts. it depends what you plan to use the quad for? just a bit of fun or mount a gopro or go full fpv and a dslr camera? but if i was building it and going by the parts you chose id say fun/gopro?
Looking though your list id have to say that the esc's and charger would be my main points, Id go for either a turnigy plush 24 esc or the hobbyking blue/mystery 30a escs, both have a good track record and are not that much more than the ones you have chosen, Your motors seem good however for that frame id be looking at a lower kv than the 1200, maybe 900-1000kv, the charger looks good but you can get an imax b6 from ebay for less than $30 and it dose the same job, The prop accessorise kits fit but the X plate dose not? not sure why that is i just fitted 4 prop drives to my motors but the X plate has different holes. The props are also a touch small id be going 9-10' props, 8 might be better for a smaller frame

Thanks for your response Aztech!! I will mainly be using this for fun, with the option of adding a gopro should I want to pursue it further and actually buy a gopro! haha

I will look into bigger props locally, as I have already placed this order :D Damn my impatience! haha

Hopefully I dont have any issues with the ESCs, but is there a down side for having the motors I already mentioned?? Not sure about the mounts, I only got that pack for the Prop part..

I mainly purchased all this with Hobbyking as I found an online tutorial that listed most of the parts to buy through them. Hopefully I havent made any major rookie mistakes and manage to have some fun with this setup! Thanks again for your advise!!

Forgot to mention I dont have any Rx/Tx setup yet. Was looking at getting a 6Ch JR setup, as I have used it before with a plane I built.... 2.4ghz???

hi again, 6ch tx/rx in the name brands are gonna be good however ive just upgraded to a naza control board with gps and found that my spektrum dx6i 6ch tx didnt have the switch functions needed to use the gps combo properly, lucky enough i own a turnigy 9x 9ch tx and waiting on a hk order with my orangerx transmitter module so i can use all the orange rx series and bind to bnf planes on the dms2 system. I have just sold my dx6i for $70 less than i paid but i got the turnigy 9x for $60 with receiver so it pans out in the end.
If you think that at any time you might want to take multi-copters or any rc flight further i would be pushing you towards something with as many channels you can afford in the transmitter.
I see hk have this option if your on a budget, its not name brand or flashy high end but it works awesomely for under $100:

and upgrade to orange tx (just seen its out of stock)

Thanks again for your kind words of wisdom! I was looking at getting a 6CH, so now I will up the anti and get a 9CH in prep for such things you have suggested. I like the look of the Turnigy 9x u linked, so I might wait till I get the order for the quad itself, then once I know ive got everything and dont need anything else, ill place another order with HK to get the Tx and Rx setup.

Thanks again!

Im glad i could help, i would like someone to back my suggestions but if you decide im over this multirotor fad and want to start flying planes with landing gear, lights ect or hellies with pitch adjustment, gyros and the like your 9x will follow on with you...so im hopping lol but so far i love multirotors and think this will be an obsession for some time. The good thing about this hobby is every year that passes the technology devoted to control boards, esc's and brushless motors not to mention the leaps and bounds that lips batteries have made in the last 5 years it seems we are at the start of very interesting hobby.

An 8 channel radio should be minimum as you will carry it over to others. it is a waste getting a 6 channel radio unless you think you will not get into the hobby. but most who start cant get rid of the addiction. FYI, I sell legs and a gopro camera mount (batwing) specifically for the f330/450/550. I suppose they would work on any frame for that matter but they were designed with teh f450 in mind as that is the most popular. They will allow you to land with a gopro underneath your quad and still keep the props out of frame and reduce vibrations by stiffening up the front arms the cam is attached to. They look cool too!

Thanks IrisAerial, I will most likely hit you up for parts as I plan to have at least two quads and one of them will be that f series frame!!

I will have a look in a local hobby shop and see what the going rate is in store for an 8+ch and then see what I can find online. Hate to do it, but I am on a budget.. hence why im building it myself :D

I am planning on brushing up my skills on a sim before I break something straight off the bat. I believe JR tx are able to do that? Might see what I can find online..

I will be getting a camera batwing aswell, does look quite nice!!

Nice website too :p

Those Turnigy AE-25 speed controllers are not programable with the card, only with the the tx ... I'd go with the Turnigy Plush.
If you know how to program via the tx they are fine, but I'd recommend the plush over the AE ones.

Well my parts arrived this week. Got them yesterday. Everything accounted for! Went to a hobbyshop near work during my lunch break and picked up an ok priced DX7s! Amazing piece of technology!! Cant wait to use it!

Time to build!!

Bit late for that. I have no idea how to program with the tx. Anyone got any pointers on using a DX7s?? Dont want to wait another couple of weeks :(
