New to Multi Rotors

Hi guys,

I'm excited and anxious to get started with this new branch of my hobby.

I've been flying planes and helicopters for over 35 years and now I am up for multis.

I made a small quad with a KK board and an HK frame, but I think I picked the wrong motors and one stuttered and the quad capsized...

Now I am on to a DJI for my FPV gear.

In the meantime, to fix my current quad, can anyone suggest an inexpensive but reliable motor to use with 18 amps ESCs on 9X5 props?

This is the one I need to replace, as it is terrible... http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5689

Thanks.

Hi jackmulti.

Welcome to the Forum

The motors I use on my home built Tricopter are the 2213N 800Kv from Hobby King and they've proved to be economical and reliable. Three motors will easily lift my 1.2 kg Tricopter with FPV gear using 10x5 props. I use them with 18 Amp Plush ESCs and everything runs cold. I've heard the 2213's sometimes need balancing although mine were pretty good right out of the box. I get about 14 minutes on a 2200 mAh 3S.

I'm about to upgrade to DT750 750Kv motors for some additional power - I just need some time to swap them over (hopefully this week). They will use the same 18 Amp ESCs and battery so its just a motor swap. All reports are they are reliable, efficient and have good torque.

For a Quad you could use the slightly lesser DT700 instead since you'll use an extra motor.

Thanks RCNut,

I was hoping for something other than HK, which I came to distaste, but I guess I'll succumb once more. Thanks for the suggestions. Hope I manage with these new motors.

Appreciated.
