The 5D is not a lightweight nor is it light on the pocket. So my suggestion would be to go for at least 6 motors but preferably 8- the Skyjib 8 is perfect for this as I am sure are many other octos. If nothing else this will provide a bit of redundancy so if one motor fails, the machine will still be able to fly. With a 5D you will be putting a lot of cash up in the air!
I think you are trying to push the laws of physics on this one. It aint going to happen. You need to belooking at the skyjib light range for that lift capability.
Yo Dave...Iam a pro photographer who is Nikon based but my friend has had the quad linked to 550d with the 17-35mm efs lens (feels very low quality to me ) Havn't flown it with it yet i must confess.. As iam used to Nikon D800 's with pro lenses, iam really at this stage thinking ahead.... would love to put my kit up there as I know the quality I can get !!
Cheers Mark ..
Where are you on the planet? Base price in UK is about £10K. Drop Geoff at quadcopters.co.uk a line. Been flying my SJLX4 with 5D and getting safe 8 mins with 2 x 8000mah 5 cell packs and PLENTY of power left over.
I would go for cinestar heavy lift or skyjib heavy lift preferably in coax configuration.
I suggest to start with something like this. Price without VAT is 18.333.00 but this is 2 man operation. If you need 1 man for photography only then price is reduced for aprox 1500 eur.
