Well I finally got hold of the clear heat shrink, Just stuck a bit on the wiring up of the AV130 gimbal. If anyone could explain to me, do I take the red wires of the two servos off before I plug them into the WKM, and then the two red wires get their voltage from the U-Bec, as everything is linked to the distribution board therefore it should all be sharing the Earth, just want to be corrected if I'm doing anything wrong.

You need to connect both the red + and black - (or brown) wires from the AV130 servos and connect them to your BEC and then just run the orange signal cable into the WKM.
You did get the distribution board between the frame. Nice! I was totally going to do that but decided to mount it on the top plate for ease of access.
Almost finished. Last night I made a ton of progress.
- ESC's all programmed, calibrated and installed into frame
- Soldered Gimbal BEC to distribution board
- Soldered 4 accessory leads with JST connectors to distribution board (3 for LED's and 1 for future expansion)
- Soldered up LED strip lights
- Added Y Harness to gimbal BEC
- Installed Spektrum TM1000 telemetry unit (voltage monitor and temp sensor on one of the ESC's)
- Disassembled my WKM from my Gaui 500x
- Reassembled the Gaui with a Naza
Only thing left is to install all the electronics (waiting for some carbon fiber mounting plates to build my stack), install LEDs (waiting on heat shrink), balance the props and clean/tidy everything up. I know my heat shrink will be here tomorrow but I have no idea when the CF plates will be here so I might have to improvise for the weekend.
The goal is to fly this weekend.

I'm about to go to bed but I'll leave you with some quick photos. Tonight I completed the reassembly of the Gaui and gave it a test flight. Wow I'm impressed with the Naza out of the box. I'll have to grab a video in the daylight because my 500x flies great! I also did a dry run of all the electronics on the AD-4. Nothing is covered (braided tubing) or mounted. I improvised the missing mounting plate that I'm still trying to acquire. Still a couple more nights needed to complete everything. I'm amazed how much actually goes into a build. It's the details that get you and suck all the time away.

It's looking really good Rob, I do like the idea with the GPS inside the canopy, it just finishes it off. I myself thought about doing that but I've been waiting to see if anybody else comes out with the idea because i didn't know if it would work being so close to all the other electrics. I just think they look too ugly stuck outside spoiling a good looking rig.
I'm just working on a plate to put the IMU, Controller and the RX together, and going to use the electric plate you get with kit to mybe put the GPS onto it. And yes the rig is not too bad to put together, but yes I do agree with you It takes a lot of time and patients to put in the final touches so I know where you're coming from. I've still got a lot of wires to rig up on mine coz I've got all the led lights to put on, so that is going to be my task for tonight. I'm not the first to put the GPS in the canopy. I've seen others do it and they said they didn't have issues but still I'll have to see for myself. I'm mounting the GPS on a solid CF plate which I hope will act as a shield against interference (I even thought about maybe mounting it on a small plate of copper). I won't be using the plate the kit came with because of the big hole in the center.
Painting the canopy shouldn't cause any issues with the GPS as long as the paint doesn't contain any metals (some tinting paints contain iron, others contain lead). I'm thinking of using a dark tint instead of a solid color. These are the paints I would use - (http://www.testors.com/category/137916/)
You are wright about the plate from the kit, the big hole is not good. I've just knocked one up to hold the IMU,Controller and RX, just making one to replace the one from kit to go on top of the standoffs for the GPS.

I really like how you are able to fit all 3 components on the lower plate. That even gives you good space to hide wires underneath. For the GPS plate I'm going to make it only slightly larger than the 45mm hole patterns used for the standoffs and then use the longest standoffs I can so that the GPS is as high as possible. Hmmm... Maybe I'll switch to the extended standoffs for the dome. I'll have to check that out. SO many options.
I know all my heat shrink and braided tubing is waiting for me on my doorstep. Time to get home, get the kids to bed and start the real mounting and cleanup process.
Last night was a nightmare. Seemed like I had to do everything twice and nothing worked out as planned.
My goal was route all the wires, clean everything up and make the final connections. After a good 5 hours I got about 40% of that done.
First I started with mounting the LED strip lights on the boom. I got the rear lights mounted and heat shrinked and then when I tested them I found that half of one of the strips was not working. Crap! I took it all apart and found the little chip had a weak solder joint (possibly came loose from the heat gun). I pulled it all apart, added some new solder and mounted it all again. Freaking LED lights. $6 parts that cost me some serious time and frustrations to get mounted. On the front boom lights I did a bunch of testing to see where I could put them so they didn't cause flare in any cameras I'll be carrying. I ended up mounting them on the backside of the booms facing the rear of the craft. I'll have to add some other single LEDs somewhere that face forward.
After the LEDs were done I moved on to the motor wires. First I protected them with some heat shrink and added some braided tubing for protection where they exit the booms into the center frame. Routing these wires were a giant pain in my side. Having 4mm bullets already connected didn't help matters. Took my nearly 3 hours to all the wires routed and connected to their respective ESC's.
The final thing I did was added some braided tubing to a bunch of the remaining wires (BEC, telemetry, etc.). I didn't get a chance to route anything else as it was nearly 2am and my brain was mush. Oh well, I was hoping to finish the last remaining tasks tonight so that I could have a maiden voyage on Saturday but i'm not sure I'll be able have enough time to get everything done.
I now have a much better appreciation of the guys who are building those large heavy lifters as RTF platforms. I couldn't even imagine building an Octa right now.

Rob I know exactly where you are coming from when it comes to mounting wires, I too have been slapping my head as I dont have any hair to pull out wondering where to mout everything so that it looks neat. As goes for the LED strips i mounted them on the booms before i clamped them to the centre plates. I read that you have 4 mm bullet connectors, is that just on the power side or both? I did that on my first one and found it easier as for if you need to change any of it if it fails, but on this one I have decided to solder everything as I have read on the forums that bullets have given some of the guys problems, which in my experience of flying hellis and planes i never had any problems what so ever. But I thought I would take precautions this time and solder everything. I'm looking foward to seeing your LED setup, That's what I'm working on tonight them and the ESC soldering. Aint it amazing how the Motors, ESC's and LED suck up so much time, and everything else is a doddle lol. Keep the posts coming.
Here she is. Ready for her maiden voyage tomorrow morning. I improvised the bottom plate from a sheet of G10. I may or may not keep it. I'd rather make it from a carbon fiber sheet. The top plate that holds the GPS is just the plate that the kit comes with. That will be replaced immediately once I get the carbon fiber I ordered in the mail.
I'm really happy how I was able to clean everything up. The PET braided tubing really helps a lot and gives it a cool look (you might not be able to tell from the crappy late night cell photo images below).
Wish me luck tomorrow. Any suggestions for DJI gain settings that I should start with? I currently have the basic gains set at 150 (and linked to the knob on my TX) and the atti gains at 90.

I think the shaking was the DJI trying to compensate for the rocks holding the multi down. There was no shaking once I removed the rocks and let it fly. I have videos uploading right now.
